Re: Any kayakers here?

Not a kayaker yet, but want to be. I've had my eye on some sit on top fishing kayaks for a while. I want one that I could stand up on. Jester Jester - I have a Feel Free Lure 11.5 fishing kayak. Like you, I researched for some time before choosing the FF Lure 11.5. Good size, very stable and comfor...

Re: Treasury Direct Question

I'm currently buying T-bills through Treasury Direct website rather than buying treasuries through a brokerage. Based on reading through the responses on this question, it seemed as though the tax reporting for T-bills purchased through Treasury Direct was much more onerous than just receiving a fo...

Re: Treasury Direct Question

Thanks. This is (FY18) the first year I have purchased T-bills, which is why I had the tax filing question. I'm currently buying T-bills through Treasury Direct website rather than buying treasuries through a brokerage. Based on reading through the responses on this question, it seemed as though the...

Re: Treasury Direct Question

I don't think this has been covered specifically, but mentioned in a few responses. Can someone explain the tax reporting for T-bills bought from Treasury Direct? Do you have to log (I use Turbotax) each individual T-bill that is bought? Does a re-enrollment constitute a separate T-bill from the fir...

Re: Maui Hikes

Somewhat dependent on where you're staying and whether / how far you're willing to drive (e.g. Kapalua area, driving the Road to Hana, etc.). There is an abandoned golf course across from the Ritz Kapalua that was a nice hike and is based on the cart paths.. The Boardwalk / cliff walk near the Ritz ...

Re: Anyone at Goldman Sachs/Marcus bank 1.5%?

Also moved to GS when I noticed Capital One was at 1.0% and GS was at 1.5%. Been moving money away from Capital One to GS and T-bills given their slowness to match rate increases.

Re: Housing Budget Check (paging Watty / KlangFool)

Live within 93/128 belt. Both of us commute to Boston/Cambridge daily. Not sure where your family is located. We just bought a house in the fall, same age as you. We went from condo on the fringe of Boston to about 10 miles outside. We looked at the higher priced houses / better school districts, as...

Re: Boglehead business travelers - preferences

I travel pretty frequently (~2x per month). Airline - Delta. It's the best option where I live and has enough hubs on East Coast and Central to cover where I travel most frequently with a direct. Will take reasonable layover to stay with Delta. Have had Gold or Platinum status last 4 years. They hav...

Re: Portfolio help: Financially conservative couple looking for suggestions

Need to check on my wife's account options. We will be moving her former employer plans to VG in the coming months via Rollover IRA. If she creates a rollover IRA her ability to use the backdoor method will be greatly affected. How do people consolidate accounts with one or two providers to make it...

Re: Portfolio help: Financially conservative couple looking for suggestions

If you could tell us exactly what kind of accounts the $350k is spread over that would help me. thanks, JW Thanks for your response. The $365k and $350k are one and the same (I wrote this post and refined over the last 2 months before posting and updated one place but not the other). Current assets...

Re: Portfolio help: Financially conservative couple looking for suggestions

Only one other person mentioned the mortgage. Have you and your wife thought through your feelings around the mortgage and what it might feel like to accelerate for early payoff? Given your self described conservative nature a mortgage payoff plan combined with investing (balanced approach to accom...

Re: Portfolio help: Financially conservative couple looking for suggestions

A point to consider. Because of my self employment and some advice I got from some wealthy folks I always carried a lot of cash. A couple of times in my life I was able to purchase a lot of assets at fire sale prices. 2008 was an example. Not only were equities on sale but I bought up a lot of home...

Re: Portfolio help: Financially conservative couple looking for suggestions

Question 1: Suggestions for a plan to draw down our excess cash over the next couple of years. We are trying to develop (i) a game plan how frequently and how much $ we contribute to brokerage account and (ii) on how to maximize returns on the cash to be invested down the road (e.g. short-term CD’s...

Re: Portfolio help: Financially conservative couple looking for suggestions

Filife20Forty , welcome to the forum. ~$350k across several 401(k)/ IRA/ retirement accounts. We each contribute $18k per year plus very healthy company 401k matches. It's $18.5K for 2018. Good call on the $18.5k (we are both maxing at that level. Had started to draft this question a few months ago...
