Re: Transfer to Vanguard and medallion signature guarantee

I ran into the same problem last week trying to transfer from my IRA at Merrill Edge to Vanguard. I tried going to Bank of America but they denied my request stating they DO provide Medallion Signature Guarantees EXCEPT for transfers out of Bank of America and Merrill Edge. I can understand Merrill ...

Re: Social Security -- Take it at 62, 67 or 70

We will be taking at 62. We both have similar work history. Remember the government figures that on average the amount will be the same for whatever time you decide to take. For a couple of the same age you have a valid argument, but SS does not descriminate based on sex, even though women tend to ...

Re: Long term care insurance excessive price increase -upset!

You can get 360 day elimination periods that can take 2-3 years to satisfy because they are based on the daily rate of insurance. For example if you have a $200 daily insurance rate + 5% inflation rider and need LTC after 10 years, you will need to pay 360 x $200 * 1.05^10 = $117,280 out of pocket ...

Re: Long term care insurance excessive price increase -upset!

Does anyone know if there is an LTCi policy available the has lifetime coverage, but a very large elimination period, say 2 or 3 years. This is what I'd be interested in. The LTC that only covers 2-3 years is not worth it to me. You can get 360 day elimination periods that can take 2-3 years to sat...

Re: The Final, Definitive Thread on Brokerage Transfer Bonuses

You don't need to open a 2nd account, you can just transfer another $200K by April 15 to the same account for the $900 bonus, as long as you have not received any bonus in the last 12 months. You can then transfer the entire $200k (or more) out after 90 days and still keep the $900 bonus. This was e...

Re: Brokers sell ETF order flow used to trade against clients

Fortunately mutual funds have figured out a way to avoid the HFT's, that can be used by anyone : Place all buy-sell orders as Market-On-Close orders on the primary exchange. All buy and sell orders placed as Market-On-Close orders will be traded at the close in a single auction (so all the buys and...

Re: Brokers sell ETF order flow used to trade against clients

The sale of order flow typically has a small negative effect for small orders but a very large negative effect on large orders (such as typically executed by mutual funds). Even if you use a broker that does NOT sell order flow (or direct your orders to the largest exchange offering Best Bid/offer) ...

Re: disability insurance

Coordination of benefits means that if you keep your private policy, it will pay first and hence your employer's policy will not pay anything. Also employer's policy benefits would be taxable while your private policy benefits are tax free. Most employers disability policies only cover you for the f...

Re: Real estate taxes- is this right?

This is very State specific. In some states (like WI) the 2018 property taxes are due on Dec-31-2018, so in those state the seller would pay the buyer the prorated property taxes due, for example 5 months of taxes for Jan-May 2018 for a May 31 2018 closing(which the buyer will apply towards to the 2...

Re: Sams Club vs Costco

Sam's Club has gone to a lot of effort to copy Costco. You do realize that Sam's Club was founded on April 7, 1983 before Costco on September 15, 1983. Costco then merged with Price Club (July 12, 1976) on October 22, 1993. So you could say that Sam's Club copied Price Club and Costco copied Price ...
