Re: Sports fan trying to cut cable

I am happy with YouTube TV, but I don't watch the NFL and doubt I could see Giants games here in Arizona very often.

Re: Men’s Underwear recommendation

I am a big fan of Mack Weldon boxer briefs. They are more expensive, but far more comfortable. I used to buy Hanes and they outlast them 4 or 5 to 1.

Re: How often do you check your brokerage accounts

Thank you for all of the responses. I think I will check the other two accounts once a week, but just look at the total balance. I don't want to look at how the individual funds are doing except for my quarterly re-balancing. So I will just check to make sure nothing is amiss.

How often do you check your brokerage accounts

I have three brokerage accounts--Vanguard, Schwab and TD Ameritrade which came over from Scottrade. I re-balance quarterly. I look at the Schwab balance regularly because I bank with them. I'd like to ignore the other two except when I get ready to do my quarterly re-balancing. Vanguard and TDA send...

Re: Value of Arizona State Retirement System

I am an ASRS retiree. I retired 16 years ago at age 55 and received a COLA the first year. There have been no COLAs since because in addition to inflation certain standards of the sustainability of the system must be met before there will be a COLA. I don't anticipate any COLAs in the near future. T...

Re: Be Careful Using Mailboxes

We have had recent thefts in the Phoenix area from USPS outgoing mailboxes--even ones outside post offices. The Postal service has recommended that you not put any outgoing mail in those boxes after the last pickup since most of the thefts occurred late at night or in the early morning hours.

Re: Any Boglehead powerlifters?

I do the basic powerlifts and a few other weight training exercises. I am 70 and am not lifting very heavy. So I am using the three basic exercises from powerlifting, but am not really powerlifting. I lift three days a week. The first day is squats 1 set of 12, one of 8 (mostly as warmups) and a set...

Re: General Electric

I no longer own individual stocks. But when I did I sold them immediately if there was even a hint of accounting fraud. GE is currently under investigation for that, and has a history of fudging the numbers. I would sell right away. But you are fine owning dozens of companies in the total market ac...

Re: Scotland in 2019

I went to Scotland about 12 years ago. I highly recommend Stirling. The castle is smaller, but I found it more interesting than the bigger ones. There are famous battlefields nearby and the Wallace Monument that are worth seeing as well.
I concur with the consensus about skipping Glasgow.

Re: Schwab Vs Fidelity Vs Vanguard

I have accounts with TD Ameritrade (formerly with Scottrade) Vanguard and Schwab. I prefer Schwab but I intend to keep all three. I will keep Vanguard because they have an ETF that I can't easily duplicate elsewhere. It is VEU and includes all international markets including emerging markets. I know...

Hetty: The Genius and Madness of America's First Female Tycoon.

Hetty Green was the richest woman in America during the Gilded Age. She inherited wealth but built it up herself. She was eccentric and very frugal. All in all a compelling story.

Re: Scottrade migration to TDAM

I just logged on and checked on my accounts. I had two with Scottrade a conventional IRA and a Roth. All of the positions were listed correctly, so the changeover seems to have gone smoothly. I enrolled everything in DRIP, so I suspect I won't have to do much tweaking. I will probably do my re-balan...

Re: What is your credit score?

Mine is hilarious. It dropped out of the low 800s to 790 after I paid off my mortgage, sold that house to someone and bought a more expensive house for cash. I also paid off my car loan and bought a more expensive one for cash. I opened two brokerage accounts with cash. (I had received an inheritanc...

Thanks for the link algorithm. I already have an Amazon Prime card, and will be switching to Schwab bank for my overall banking, so I will have both a good credit and debit card for international travel.

My statement was generic as to funds based on what they told me in answer to my email. I only have ETFs. But you are right. The Vanguard ETFs are still available to buy with fees. They are just off the no transaction fee list.

Re: Scottrade migration to TDAM

I am also with Scottrade. All of the migration will happen at the same time, so no one has had it done yet. I intend to log on after the close of business a week from today and see how it went. I did send them an email and found out the following: TDAM no longer sells Vanguard funds. (I knew that pr...
