Re: Luxury car recommendations?

I have a 2016 Lexus GS AWD and absolutely love it! Best car I've ever owned. My wife has a 2013 Lexus ES and loves it as well. As far as Toyota - they will not feel like a Lexus. In addition, if you add all the options to a Toyota that you would get standard with a Lexus, you'd actually pay more. Bu...

Re: When did you start spending more and saving less?

My plan is to never start spending more. I will save less (if any) when I retire at the end of the year.

Under IRS Rule 72(t), you can make penalty-free withdrawals before age 59.5 from an IRA if you set up substantially equal periodic payments.

Anyone retiring before 59.5 should become familiar with this option.
I'm familiar now - thanks! Retiring at year's end.

Re: TSP in Retirement

If you are less than 59.5 years old another reason to keep some money in the TSP is because you can withdraw it, if you want, if you have retired. Any other IRA that you might roll into has to sit there until you are 59.5 (without penalty, anyhow).

Re: TSP Question: Why would AA change on L-Income?

I guess I'm saying, in short, the only way you can really ensure that you'll have asset allocation that you want or that's outlined in your IPS for decades to come, is to hold the individual asset classes themselves. Because institutions can rarely stay the course. They'll find some excuse to monke...

Re: TSP Question: Why would AA change on L-Income?

Yes, that looks like a weird progression, but I believe this is a result of the TSP recently deciding to make the Lifecycle asset allocations more aggressive. They are phasing this in over time, not immediately. Ah yes, I do remember they are slowly making the Lifecycle funds more aggressive. I bet...

TSP Question: Why would AA change on L-Income?

This is not a debate about the actual Asset Allocation for the TSP Lifecycle Income Fund (I find it a bit too conservative for my tastes, even after retirement next year). But my question is this: If you go to to look at the AA for this fund, it varies over time. And in fact, it gets LESS conservati...

Re: Does anyone here with net worths north of $1 mil use financial advisors?

We went to a fee-only FA last year to make sure our finances were in order, as I plan to retire in two years. Guess what? He had us fire my Morgan Stanley FA and had us switch to Vanguard Index Funds. I am now a Boglehead and I haven't looked back!
