Re: Rollover 403b into IRA

The original employer was a Hospital. Will Fidelity be able to tell me if the plan is covered by Erisa, or only the hospital benefits folks?

EDIT: a google search makes me think the original plan is indeed covered by ERISA... but it also appears that an IRA has essentially the same protection, but capped at $1.5M. the balance is less than that amount. So is their really protection I would loose? I suspect in the end... much of the balance will get passed along to adult children. Are the inheritance / withdrawal rules the same for them, regardless of if the funds are 403b or IRA?

Rollover 403b into IRA

my 62 YO spouse is essentially retired, though we haven't started withdrawing from retirement accounts yet. Best I can tell, there is a $50 a quarter "administrative fee" taken from the 403b held at fidelity. Can we simply roll the large 403b into a much smaller IRA, also at Fidelity, to end these fees? I would think the answer to that would be "yes," so I guess the real question is the pros and cons of doing so.

thanks

Don't really understand how one can go from high school into a "trade skill". Generally, the well paying trade skills require expensive training... which it would be reasonable to assist with just like any other post high school education.

Confirm the age for UGMA, which can vary by state. typically 18 or 21.

Also, while I don't think the exact "mutual fund" exists now, but I'm sure something similar does, which is (was) the 20th Century (now American Century?) Gift Trust, where you could pick any age/ date you like.

I personally am in a lower marginal tax bracket than the Trust. I was trying to determine if it made a difference if the Trust's tax liability was paid directly by the Trust, or the amount owed to the IRS was distributed to me, then I pay it on behalf of the Trust. Sounds like it is best to distribute the income to me first.

I have a Complex trust, where income is (optionally) distributed to avoid the high Trust Tax brackets. Suppose $10k is distributed, but $9k goes directly into my checking account, and $1k goes directly from Trust to the IRS for Tax payments. On my K-1, does it show $9k, or $10k? Would it be different if $10k went into my checking account, then I (not the trust) wrote the check for the Trust's $1k tax liability?

If one is selling a house, in particular is a depressed market, how well the house is "staged" may very well determine the sales price. But you are essentially selling LAND. I'm not aware how one "stages" land, but I guess it could be done. So the question I would ask any realtor I was interviewing, is how will they MARKET the house? I'd be curious what one realtor would do differently than another one, and would like to see something that justifies a commission any greater than the minimum needed to get onto the MLS.

I am the Trustee of a Trust. I distribute (as allowed) most income from the Trust to get the income out of the high Trust tax brackets, into lower individual brackets. The Trust consists of an Investment account, and a Checking account. Essentially all the income is generated by the investment account. I suspect some/much of that excess unearned income will be from Q4 capital gains distributions. since it occurred in Q4, am I exempt from the need to pay those taxes early? I would do something about this, because the amount is larger. But perhaps the penalty would feel small to you. If these earnings are attributed to Q4, then the estimated-tax payment was due last week. There is no exemption that allows you to wait until April. If you care about either of these penalties, note that they are accumulating every day that your payment is late. So on the second, larger account... there is some advan...

To summarize: Earning ~$300k a year, and you want other people to help fund your kids education. Many posters on this site are more than happy to talk about how their kids earned merit scholarships to help defray college costs. This is equivalent to having other people fund their kids education. Generally speaking "Top 20" schools dont give merit scholarships, because everyone admitted has stellar credentials. Making $300k and claiming there is financial need is equivalent to having a 2.5 GPA, and finding a way to get a merit scholarship (OK, not a perfect analogy, but my point remains). And certainly an MD would understand that for a medical career, and most (but not all) other professions, where you got your undergraduate degre...

/1/ Close enough that you can get to it for use on a 2 day weekend

/2/ low enough maintenance and/or you can easily afford to have someone do most of the "chores" on it

/3/ you have no expectations that it is an investment that will do well, or save money over renting

/4/ You have enough funds to also afford whatever other vacations you want to take.

We met those requirements 3 years ago, and purchased. And delighted with that decision. Also delighted that we decided not to buy in a location that we loved ~6-7 hour drive away..., as /1/ above would not be met.

We also have two homes, with Xfinity internet in our primary residence and CenturyLink internet in our secondary, "snowbird" one. We cut the Xfinity TV cord and use Hulu +Live TV, which gives us the "cable" channels we want in addition to the local channels in each location.

Not really clear why your question "Will a PhD be worth it Financially" is a relevant question. Getting a PhD is a long, sometimes painful road, and if the primary motivation is financial, then the answer is NO, it is not worth it. If he has a passion for learning more in the subject, and/or he wants to go into a research oriented career, then a PhD is indeed worth it. I am also the Trustee of a different Trust, and unlike Trust #1, I am not a beneficiary of this trust #2... so have paid little attention to it. The beneficiary is a wealthy adult, who doesn't need the interest or principal, so we've never discussed the Trust #2, other than briefly when it was created ~ 10 years ago. However, there is someone, who I think meets the definition discussed above, of "qualified beneficiary." I think this person is now a middle school student. Am I actually required to provide this person the Trust documents, and an annual accounting? Or being a minor, provide it to the parent?

Re: Unable to Login To Facebook

For those that care... took me three tries sending in an ID to get the account unlocked. For third try, I used a different email address, and finally got the verification email back from facebook.

so is Signal
It may very well be a good app... but its likely not one that any of my 200 friends around the globe have, nor have even heard of... Also, using it will have nothing to do with actually solving my problem... which is getting back into my facebook account.

Also not sure the relevance of a retracted facebook memo from 2016. Any communication tool can be used for good, or bad purposes.

Re: Unable to Login To Facebook

It appears there may be a path to communicate with a live help person if I create a facebook business account. Has anyone with a business account actually communicated with live support?

Re: Unable to Login To Facebook

I use Facebook regularly. Great for distribution of photos. Great to communication with sports teams you are on with just saying it once and everyone sees it without having to maintain an email list which constantly having to change people's email addresses. Great for messaging with people. Just giving the other side of Facebook and how it is a tremendous tool in my life. Regarding logging it. I don't have any problems logging in. Have never used two factor to log in. Only briefly looked at this but with 500+ comments it looks like original poster might find some answers here: https://www.socmedsean.com/contact-facebook-support/ Thank you for that link... I read may 25 of the 500 posts... and more than a handful of them complaining about t...

yes... it's possible I may have been hacked... but... all my providing info havsbeen directly via facebook website, following their process on their website.. not while I'm logged in... And, when I view my profile via a friend's account, it show's my email is unchanged / correct... and I do get emails directly from facebook, letting me know a friend has sent me a message via messenger... I just cant get to the messages themselves!

Unable to Login To Facebook

OK, first world problem here... but am at a complete loss. Regular / heavy facebook user, and I seem to be completely unable to login to my account. I went thru all the processes, including uploading a government issue ID... When I check the "status" a couple days later, it says I have been verified, and that they have sent an email with recovery instructions. That email never shows up! But the email on my account is correct... as I get other emails from them, and when I attempt to login with my email address, it does find my account... though wont let me log in. Open to suggestions! or an actual support email address... or even paid tech support at this point. (and my starting point to recover the account is the official facebook...
