Re: Misspelled Trust Name in IRS Form

I had a similar problem. My Dad's old CPA applied for the EIN for the trust, and spelled a couple of the words wrong (including the spelling of my Mom's name...) As the Trustee, I called the IRS toll free number, got a wonderful employee on the phone who was able to correct the misspellings right th...

Re: Forum software upgrade bug reports and change requests

Feature Request: I believe there's a phpBB extension for "dark mode." I'm finding bright white screens increasingly hard on the eyes, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Would it be possible to provide the ability for the user to switch between the current color theme and dark mode? Wow! That's exac...

Re: What is the best financial decision you ever made?

Budgeting.

Having a plan for my income, and sticking to that plan, made all the difference for me. Best financial decision I ever made.

Re: Plan feedback requested - dump active managed, invest new cash, realign portfolio

Given the overall high level of smart financial moves the OP has made, I'd encourage more participation in the Bogleheads community. People could learn a lot from Lorie! :^) Regards, Thank you, Retired@50, for your kind words. The Bogleheads community is amazing, and I'm so glad to be a part of it....

Re: Plan feedback requested - dump active managed, invest new cash, realign portfolio

I agree with dumping the active portfolio. Why do you think the $6,000 new contributions are low? I must have missed something. You are able to live off of your pension. When you draw Social Security, you will not need it either. And then you have your investments. Why do you need to save more than...

Re: Plan feedback requested - dump active managed, invest new cash, realign portfolio

Desired Asset allocation: 60% stocks / 40% bonds This is reasonable for your age. Desired International allocation: 20% of stocks This is reasonable. 20% of 60% is 12%. Right now you have 8% international. Available funds I'm not sure what this means? I can pull all the money out of any of my funds...

Re: Plan feedback requested - dump active managed, invest new cash, realign portfolio

Hi Lorie, I think you have a very well thought out plan and I wouldn't change a thing. The only thing you might consider for the future is to examine what is going to happen with taxes when you reach RMD age and start taking social security. You may wish to consider Roth conversions if that tax rat...

Plan feedback requested - dump active managed, invest new cash, realign portfolio

Hi all! I'm sorry for the length of this post, I spent a long time on it to try and get all the pertinent details and my thoughts down. I'd like to ask for your feedback on my plan. I'm going for a 3 fund portfolio. Thank you for any time you spend reading/replying to this. If any additional info is...

Re: The Calm Post - Stay the course thread.

I'm staying the course. Today I looked and saw that I just hit my rebalancing band(s), so I rebalanced out of bonds and into equities to get back to my preferred asset allocation. I think Vanguard executes the trade at the end of the day tomorrow. So the market jumps tomorrow before my trade execute...

Re: Taylor's New Book: The Bogleheads' Guide to The Three-Fund Portfolio

Thanks Taylor! Just purchased it and am looking forward to reading it. I have followed your 3 Fund Portfolio advice given here on the forums as best as possible given the investment choices I have available to me in my Deferred Compensation program's plan. It's been a wonderful learning and growth e...

Re: How do you make use of this boglehead.org?

I use it to learn. Before I found this site I had no idea about asset allocation, risk, types of investments, etc. I was frightened to make any changes to my 401(k) and 457 and I was also frightened NOT to make any changes to them because I did not have any idea what I was doing. After following the...

Re: U.S. stocks in freefall

Hi all, Long time lurker, first time poster. The Bogleheads.org site is such a wealth of information, I learned how to set up an IPS, how to decide upon my asset allocation, the reason for having Bonds (that took me quite a while I'll admit...) and how to set comfortable rebalancing bands and interv...
