Re: Kid Has Money

If you're paying your kid to do something it needs to be a market wage and records should be filed with the IRS. I.e. a W2 should be issued. Not sure picking up dog poop will qualify at 10 min/day for $6000 or $100/hr as going market wage. Also can't be routine household chores.

Re: 29yo Investmant Plan Review

What is your income going to be? Can't comment on savings rate without it but your savings rate may be low for someone who is starting career late (say this as a fellow physician). Also, you have a new car already, why do you need 2 new cars? At 29 years old, your savings rate and income are most im...

Re: Driving in Lisbon Portugal?

Was in Lisbon less than a year ago. Would never drive in the city - ubers and taxis are plentiful and cheap and roads are narrow, steep and one-way. However we did rent a car on outskirts of town and drove south out of Lisbon down to coast and then back without a problem. Just have a navigation syst...

How stable are your jobs? As long as not at risk of losing income in future sounds like you can afford it.

Re: Help with South Carolina Itinerary

Lifelong SC resident, lived in Charleston for years until last year Charleston is best. Lots of history, food, arts, architecture, water/beach. Re: 29 yo resident doc married need personal finance/investing advice

Almost every category is too high. Kudos to you for recognizing it now. Whitecoatinvestor.com is a great resource and also has a forum with many members well-versed in PSLF who can offer advice. Your expenditures (groceries/restaurants/sports most egregiously) need to be reduced.

Re: Should this doctor pay damages for malpractice?

No. I'm sorry for your mother but there will not be any lasting damage.

I would ask that he not bill for the procedure but wouln't take it any further. If there is dental insurance involved it may have already been submitted and be too late.

Re: $724k in debt and I want to buy a home.

Would encourage you to re-post this at WCI forums. However, very unlikely anyone on WCI will recommend buying, particularly given that your s/o is in residency for 3 years and then a likely move. Everyone will suggest you refinance your loans if you're not going for PSLF. The general recommendation ...

Re: Recently made a separate account used for spending on fun, entertainment, and things I wouldn’t normally buy

I am trying to force myself to spend money on trips, restaurants, etc - things I would normally feel guilty about spending money on and did the same thing - created a slush fund which in my mind is already "spent" and I re-deposit the same amount each year. This is my first year and I've only spend ...

Roth conversion question

I recently rolled over old employer 401k to vanguard IRA with intention of converting to Roth this year (I'm in a low income year). About one-quarter of it was after-tax dollars but it's all lumped together in my rollover IRA. I'm concerned that when I convert it then it will appear as if all of it ...

Re: hearing devices

I would go to an ENT/audiologist who does not personally sell hearing aids (lots of ENTs have audiologists associated with their offices who will perform audiogram and then both the ENT and audiologist will interpret the audiogram for you) - if you go to Costco or somewhere they have an incentive to...
