Re: Car Dilemma

Have your wife test drive a new 2019 Forester. They have come a long way since 2014 XT. She will love it. Trade in XT for new Forester. This would have been a lot easier sell before she drove the ES350. I tried to get her interested in an Outback as I really liked the ride in the loaner she brought...

Son gets the old Lexus You drive the Forester Wife gets whatever she wants. [was the old accord] Otherwise, you're talking spending multiple 10's of thousands of dollars needlessly. Fixed it for you. Snore. A rougher-than-preferred ride on a 6 year old car with less than 60k miles is no reason to s...

Re: Car Dilemma

150k miles is my "time to go" mileage milestone. After that, all bets are off. Both our teen kids have older ES 330 cars. I bought them cheap with about 70k miles from the original owners. Reliable, safe and a bit slow/bland which is perfect for a crappy teen driver. I added a little bluetooth gadg...

Re: Car Dilemma

Why don't you think about doing the following: DW gets the 2015 ES350. Son drives 1998 ES300. You drive Subaru. You also keep 2007 Accord as a spare car. 4 cars in a family of 3.... talking about first world problem. Insurance companies would love to get a call from the OP. OP: standing pat is the ...

Car Dilemma

Wife and I thought we had this figured out, but turns out we don't. My son will be getting his driver's license in October. I was prepared to buy a new 2019 Accord and give my son the 2007 Accord (150k miles) I have been driving since new. While I was negotiating the purchase of the new Accord, my f...

Re: what was your worst major purchase? mine is a 2019 mazda3

My worst was a 1999 VW Passat. Automatic climate control would blow hot air in 100+ degree Texas heat. The car thought it was below freezing outside and would shut off the compressor - no way to override it. Leaky sunroof. 2 engine replacements under warranty due to snapped timing belts. Traded it i...

Re: Gillette Fusion razors

I shave my head regularly, so I have been through some razors. Tried the Head Blade, was not impressed. It is too small also cut my head a few times with this device. Have settled in to the Gillette Fusion razors, bought a refill pack from Sam's that was expensive but should last awhile. The Fusion...

Re: Anyone have TCL Series 4 65” TV?

Thanks! Are the differences between the series 4 and series 6 significant enough to justify the nearly $400.00 price difference? Amazon has the series 6 for $629, which is only about $150 more than the price in the OP. Actually, they have the series 4 for $389, $90 less than the Costco price in the...

Anyone have TCL Series 4 65” TV?

I see Costco has this tv on sale for $479.99, which sounds like a great deal. Can anyone comment on this tv? I’m looking for an upgrade for my game room. Thanks!

Re: Noise cancelling headphones for plane trips, advice?

I have the Bose QuietComfort 20 in ear noise canceling headphones. I am a big fan and they have made air & rail travel much more pleasant. I do find that they mute conversation enough that it is easy to ignore. They are tiny and take up almost no space in my bag, so that is a huge plus for me. +1 o...

2019 Backdoor Roth - Execute or Wait?

Is there any reason to wait to do a TIRA contribution and conversion to Roth for 2019 tax year? My MAGI tends to be right on the cusp of the income limits for a direct Roth contribution, and of course I do not know exactly what it will be for 2019.

Re: Anyone Tried Youtube TV Yet?

I just cut the cord from Dish Network last week, and moved to YouTube TV. So far I don't miss the Dish. I had some crashing when using the YouTube TV app on my Samsung smart tv (would hang when trying to rewind live tv), so I got a Roku stick and that has fixed the problem. One thing to note is that...

Re: Simplify My Portfolio!

Thanks for the suggestions. The yield on the Stable Value fund is around 2%. The Target Retirement Income fund is 67% bonds, so by my calculation, I couldn't quite hit 35% bond allocation by putting everything into that fund. Yes, Muni bond funds have small losses. I had thought about paying off the...

Simplify My Portfolio!

Hello Bogleheads! This is my first post here. I really enjoy reading the advice provided on this site. I am looking for some guidance on how to simplify my investments and maximize efficiency. I am trying to achieve a 65/35 stock/bond allocation. My investments have been somewhat of a hodgepodge wit...
