Re: Help with Solo 401k Placement

Thank you for the explanation Spirit Rider. You are very much correct about not being able to touch a property held in a 401k. I just finished reading a book about solo 401ks and that was the first time I heard of it. It would be very difficult for me to pay someone to wash a window or mow a yard. T...

Re: Help with Solo 401k Placement

Since the OP mentioned that this is a non-prototype one-participant 401k plan. I am assuming that they are referring to actually purchasing real estate in the 401k. I am not a fan of this for many reasons. It is performance chasing, you should take your risks in taxable where they can be compensate...

Re: Help with Solo 401k Placement

Thanks for the advice. I just did an online chat with Schwab, they had no idea what I needed. Thankfully my 401k docs spell it out clearly what type of account I need at Fidelity and Schwab (a CRA Account). I like their website and tools on their website, more so than Fidelity but I'm sure it has so...

Re: Help with Solo 401k Placement

I have not ruled out ETFs. The reason I steered clear of them at Vanguard is due to the partial share thing. Once I built up enough for Admiral Shares I made the switch from Investor Shares. I have had ETFs but I like to invest the full amount of my contribution and I always ended up having money le...

Re: Help with Solo 401k Placement

My plan is in the beginning (1-2 years) load up on index funds/mutual funds.....likely something along the lines of Total Stock Market Index which I have at Vanguard in my taxable and in my Vanguard Roth. My Fidelity 403b holds a S & P 500 fund and a small percentage of international and a small cap...

Help with Solo 401k Placement

I have a non-prototype Solo 401k that was just established. Now I'm to the point of picking a brokerage company for investments. I currently have a Roth and Taxable Account at Vanguard and a 403B at Fidelity for my full time job. I know more about Vanguard Funds than I do about Fidelity, I have limi...

Late Tax Filer - SEP IRA to Solo 401k for 2017

I have an extension to file for 2017. I did not make the deadline to set up a solo 401k before 12/31/2017. Since I filed an extension, I "think" I can fund a SEP IRA now and it be counted for 2017. My solo 401k is set up for 2018. Am I correct that I can still fund a SEP for 2017 until my extension ...

Taxes, Solo 401k, and advice

I am planning on having a minimum net income of $50k from a small business prior to any depreciation. My business purchased a vehicle and if I remember correctly I can depreciate it 100% the first year (the 50% bonus depreciation confuses me, not sure about that ). The vehicle amount is roughly $32k...

Solo 401k rollover question

I own a small business and I have a 403b from W2 employment. Spouse has no retirement options as work. He has a Rollover tIRA ($40,000) that was created from an old 401k at previous employer. Since he is my spouse, he would qualify as a participant of my solo 401k (non-protype plan). I am considerin...

Solo 401k provide options and a thank you

I had asked about discountsolo401k a few days back because of the ability to take loans out and do an after tax rollover roth. After reviewing the comments and my corp income and business net profits, I've decided to save the cash and go with a free version for my small business. If my side business...

Solo 401k options

Getting ready to open a solo 401k for this year. Fidelity is free and easy to open from what I read and seems to be my best, low-cost startup plan. In a year or two....if my income increases, can I switch to using DiscountSolo401k.com where I can set up the plan with all the options available (after...
