Re: New Zealand

We went in feb and had good weather and not overwheming crowds. Rented a car in Auckland, drove down to Queenstown, and hopped a flight back to Auckland for the return flight. Domestic flights are an easy way to get around, but I remember seeing a fair number of camper vans on the road if thats an i...

Re: Recommendation For Shirts

I find that small size Polo shirts are too tight for my somewhat expanding gut, but medium shirts are too big in the arms and shoulders People getting fed up trying to find clothes that fit them well seems to be a common motivator for people to get interested in garment sewing. In case you’re inter...

Re: Rethinking old CD ladder

That's an awful rate. You can earn 2% in Popular Direct savings account, and 2.7% in a 2-year brokered CD. Yikes - who is paying 2.7%? Tax exempt funds have been mentioned a couple of times but they only make sense in higher tax brackets, what's yours? We’ve bounced between 25% and 28% federal over...

@randomizer -
Good point; I guess I more meant that the funds are currently just parked there w/o a strategy.

@billfromct -
Their 2yr CD is currently at 1.95%.

Rethinking old CD ladder

Several years back I considated several small accounts at a bank into a two-year CD ladder. It’s just been rolling over ever since, and I don’t have a good strategy in what to do with it. It’s not a huge sum, but it’s time to come up with a plan. For context: * 39 yo / 25+y horizon for retirement * ...

Re: How to sell a diamond?

Another site for selling second hand stones is https://loupetroop.com. It should also be totally possible to replace the missing stone and setting!

Re: Diamonds [Earrings and ring]

Another vote for considering getting loose stones and having them set, especially for studs. While a custom setting will cost more, settings are also commotized - check out Stuller for lots of "stock" settings. You local jeweler can order from them (they don't sell to the public) and handle the sett...

Re: Visiting SAN FRANCISCO

Another vote for hiking Lands End, starting near the Cliff House and the ruins of the Sutro Baths - you can walk up the coast all the way to the golden gate. That's one of my favorite walks in the area. If you end up at Ghirardelli square, head downhill toward the Maritime park and turn left. There'...

Re: Diamonds are forever.

kenkat, this is probably the direction we will head. DW is opposed to spending a lot of money, and doesn't really like to stand out too muc Sounds like a good direction. There's a very small secondary market for diamonda and setting, so you may want to dream about how to re-set her current diamond ...

Re: Diamonds are forever.

One of the best resources out there on the jewelry front are the pricescope forums - this one in particular has a ton of great info on diamond buying (and to a lesser extent finding a good jeweler): https://www.pricescope.com/community/forums/rockytalky.3/ There are a number of good internet vendors...
