Form of market timing?

Curious if anyone has opinions on this philosophy... I contribute X to my investments each month because I have decided it is the most I can contribute while still enjoying my life with Y (money used for recreation). When the market is lower, I find I want to reduce my Y so I can increase X. I find ...

Re: Robot Vacuum Cleaner?

Xiaomi Roborock S50, paid $420 and it has virtual mapping, scheduling, and all the features of the $800+ models. Highly - HIGHLY recommend. Have a yellow lab and run this thing daily and never find hair on the floor anymore. I know it’s not one of the main names- but I can’t tell you how much I valu...

Re: Is it sensible to buy a car from Elon Musk?

I did buy one four years ago. And I would buy another one in a heart beat, even more so now after watching Elon’s success. It’s been a daily driver and have done road trips all the way to Canada with it. Most Tesla owners say the same thing. I like cars and my monthly cost to buy one was “sensible” ...

Re: Lucrative careers?

I’m 26 years old planning on going back to college to finish my undergrad and I’m unsure what I want to do as a career. I thought maybe bogleheads may have some suggestions. I’d like to someday make 100k a year (who wouldn’t) Careers I’ve looked into are: -Law (I love law, I read law books for fun,...

Re: Wisconsin - Madison Meetings - Master Thread

I haven't attended any meetings, but just saw that Sprecher's is closing on Friday permanently! I remember passing this thread and that you held meetings here. Didn't want this group to miss that announcement :(

Re: Bogleheads with $100K+ MSRP cars?

Have a Tesla Model S. Single guy, Nurse Practitioner. But the Tesla actually was only 84k minus 7.5k tax credit. So 76k. The fact that I live in an apartment building which doesn't charge me for the electricity means I don't have to pay for the electric "gas" bill. Planning to keep it for ...

Re: Daughter’s College & Grad School Expenses -Nurse Practitioner

So many off topic posts. First, just an FYI/clarification - Most NP's are not getting 'PhD's,' they're getting DNPs. And it's the same as a Pharmacist, Physical therapists, etc. They're all doctoral degrees. Physician is the protected title. Advanced practice nurse is a protected title. Not doctor. ...

Re: Bonavita 1500 vs 1800/1900? (coffee)

Agree with the Moccamaster (KB 10 cup) if you're looking for a long-lasting coffee maker. Bonavita would be my 2nd choice if I were going economical. Not sure between the versions though. I've read good things about the 1900.

Re: How much house can we afford (Madison WI area)?

I've lived in Middleton for the last 5 years. You are likely looking in the Frank Lloyd Wright area hearing those numbers. Look a bit West from there and you can easily find nice new homes in the 200-300's. It's built by Veridian (cookie cutter style). Waunakee is where I grew up - also an extremely...

Sorry - I probably should have added that I'm planning to split the conversion between this year and next year (or more years).

Re: Conversion to Roth IRA

I would open a second Roth account. I have two for the purpose of separating contributions from conversions in case I ever needed to recharacterize a conversion. Thanks. There's no need to open a second Roth if you keep good records and Vanguard does this automatically for you. I just did a rechara...

Conversion to Roth IRA

I currently have 3 'accounts' at Vanguard. Taxable ($10k) Rollover Pre-Tax IRA ($13k) Roth IRA ($30k) I'm 29, at the peak of the 25% federal tax bracket and would like to start converting my Rollover Pre-Tax IRA to my Roth IRA. I'm planning to do it over the course of the next few years so that I do...
