Re: San Francisco Mid Peninsula, California Chapter Interest?
I'm interested. I'm in Mountain View. Be great if it was near Caltrain stations.

Re: streamline mega backdoor roth conversions?
Thanks for the responses. In the end I decided to just go the IRR route each pay check for convenience and concerns over the ACP testing.

Re: I week in California, Road Trip Planning
Santa Barbara is worth stopping at for either a few hours on the drive up from LA to SF or for an overnight stay. We've used airbnb, vrbo & homeaway countless times with success. They often have 2-3 nights minimums which may not work for your itinerary. Sounds like a busy trip. Hope you have fun.

Re: Restricted Stock Units vesting- always sell immediately?
I believe I researched this from other threads and found that there is no advantage to holding restricted stock units that vest. As soon as they vest, they are taxed like ordinary income. So in effect, it is like getting a cash bonus that you buy company stock with Correct. A lot of companies will ...

Re: streamline mega backdoor roth conversions?
If so, the option might be to do IRRs each pay period and then do a rollover periodically. If you are an HCE, it might make sense to wait to rollover the previous year's after-tax contribution IRRs until after ACP testing results (3/15). That's a great idea. From reading the plan's description it d...

streamline mega backdoor roth conversions?
Hi All, I completed my first megaback door roth conversion today. The megacorp I work for supports after-tax 401k contributions and in-service distributions. Based on what I had read here, and on other sites, I was planning on doing conversions after every pay check or every month to minimize taxes ...

Re: Tenants want to break lease early and is pregnant
Check your state's / local laws if you are not planning on being lenient. For example, in CA a landlord can only charge the renter a reasonable cost of replacing the tenant (regardless of what is in the lease). If you are in an upmarket, with rentals in high demand, it would be hard to legally justi...

Re: Below Admiral Shares Minimum
I didn't check others, but the Total International Stock (VTIAX) prospectus says there is a $20 a year fee if you are below the 10k limit for certain funds.
https://personal.vanguard.com/pub/Pdf/p113.pdf
It's unclear if you need to be below the limit for an entire year or x% of the year.

Re: Portfolio plan review
Thanks for the pointers. I agree that it's probably a good idea to hedge my bets and split my contributions over a 401K and Roth 401K. For my HSA, I decided the easiest approach was to just throw it into TIPS and reduce my bonds holding in the 401K by the equivalent amount. Good to know on the CA Mo...

Vanguard - repeated back door roth logistic question
Hi All, I did my first backdoor roth last week with my vanguard account. It went smoothly, but I see that the original IRA account is still around. For folks that do these yearly, do you open a new IRA account each year or just contribute the limit to the old account and do the conversion again? Hav...

Portfolio plan review
Hi All, Thanks to everyone that contributes to this forum. Especially those of you that have contributed to the wikis. I’ve been pouring over the site and the boggleheads’ guide to investing book the last few weeks to try and sort out my portfolio. I’ve got a lot to learn. I’ve been very fortunate i...
