Re: Roth 401k ?

I've been thinking about this same issue but from a slightly different angle. I will likely stop working in 5 yrs and chances are tax rates will be mucher then in order to start reducing national debt. As a result, even though it gives me no financial benefit today, I'm thinking of putting all of my...

Re: college planning Custodial Roth?

I did that for both of my kids as they were employees of my business. Set up a custodianial roth contributory ira (beneficiaires can be tricky when they are under 18) about a decade ago and now as they are getting close to college, I learned that their retirement assets do not get factored into FAFS...

Re: Employer requesting increased travel

If you have to travel more it will decrease their profitability and increase the carbon footprint associated with the university. I'd suggest pitching video teleconferences as an alternative. Many students are very aware of environmental issues and this would be one way that the school say they are ...

Re: New Job, Depressed, Money issues

I would totally stay in DevOps and not try to go backwards in your career. The very nature of IT is that it's always evolving. If you stay in DevOps, you've got a natural transition to cloud center of excellence. Learn AWS or Azure and your earning potential is huge. Set up an alert on LinkedIn and ...

Re: Women wearing black to a wedding?

I wore a black outfit to a Friday night wedding two weeks ago. Overheard my 89 year old aunt commenting that black clothing was inappropriate for a wedding. Since most of my wardrobe is black and this is the only evening wear, I wasn't going to purchase something new. Then all of the 20-something gu...

Re: FAFSA question (It's FAFSA season again!)

We are in the process of doing FAFSA. Started filling out info today. State schools indicated that they don't require second set of fin aid forms, which private schools want. Something to be on the lookout for as you figure out the cost equation. In addition to $70k tuition for private school and ho...

Re: Thought provoking non-fiction for 3rd grader

When my kids were young, I selected books based on whether they had won an award or nomination by a committee that specialized in childrens literature, eg Newberry, Endicott, etc. This way I was fairly certain it was going to be a provocative work, though they typically are fiction. A series I enjoy...

Re: Anyone in Westchester County, NY here?

I know lower Westchester well. Yes, many of the apts and condos are older, but you will find newer ones in White Plains and Yonkers. I liked living in the area because of the proximity to NYC and the Long Island sound. Don't like the Summer weekend traffic.

Re: Berkshire buying stake in Amazon - my opinion

Y'all need to check out Amazon's revenues from their cloud business and ad revenue is growing quickly to understand why Berkshire went into it. Yes, the retail operations are everywhere and contributing to the decline in bricks n' mortar but the business model for those companies was fading anyway. ...

Re: Someone spoofing my phone number?

My cell # was spoofed too and I had about 10 calls a day from people calling me back because they missed my call. Ugh.. who knew people had so much time on their hands. After the first 10 calls, I started to give people a lesson on why they shouldn't call numbers back if they didn't leave a message....

Here's a site that has GPS trackers for kids. The ones for special needs children might be useful.

Re: 840 credit score Million dollar farm.. low income cannot get Heloc?

Would your friend consider selling off a small amount acreage to cover the amount of the balloon payment? Selling off a few acres from a large parcel would have the added benefit of reducing property taxes. Another option would be to lease the land to tenant farmers and use that as a source of incom...
