Re: Help with streamlining investment in 401K/Roth IRA

Thanks for the inputs. I also have access to brokerage account in our 401K. Does it make sense to totally ignore the defaul choices and use the brokerage account to invest in the 3 fund portfolio?

Re: Help with streamlining investment in 401K/Roth IRA

Is there a reason for the target date fund being a bad idea? The 2045 fund has the right mix of us, foreign stocks and bonds to closely match my AA. Would it make sense to put 100% in it in both the 401k? Then Ivan follow the 3 fund portfolio in the Roth. Any issues with that approach?

Re: Help with streamlining investment in 401K/Roth IRA

Thanks! We have access to VBLTX I can use that for rebalancing into bonds. We also have access to brokerage link in our 401K, any small/mid cap funds you recommend?

Also, should I get out of FOCKX in the 401K?

Re: Mega back door roth

Thanks everyone for your replies. This is very helpful. Apologies for late reply as I was out travelling. Update on my end: I called ML (they manage my wife's 401K) and spoke to 3 different people over phone who all gave me conflicting reply. After further digging it turns out they do allow out of p...

Mega back door roth

Hello folks, I have a question on mega back door Roth. My spouse’s workplace allows them to contribute to after tax 401k beyond the 18k limit. There is one concern: they do not allow the money to be rolled into a Roth (both in plan or out of plan) until she leaves her company or is 59.5 years of age...

Re: I bonds: Should I put money on I bonds rather than keep them in a savings account

If you use a bucket system to keep some cash available for at least the initial 12 month period, I Bonds make an all-around superior savings account- big purchases, emergency funds, and any other purpose you want your money kept ultra safe. Thanks! Will I bonds always earn more than savings account...

I bonds: Should I put money on I bonds rather than keep them in a savings account

Hello Folks, I understand that we can put $10K/SSN into I bonds per year. Currently I am accumulating money to put on a down payment for a home (and have money saved for emergency needs). Is it better to put this money into I bonds? From what I gather, if I need to pull this money out sooner than 30...

Thanks for all the reply. I have updated more info in my original post. I have a few follow up questions: My replies in blue 1. Re: what should I change??

Welcome to the forum :) Your 25% savings rate is very good. Keep it up. I think $8k per year or even more in vacations is fine, don't forget to enjoy life. Need advice on whether I should change anything with my personal finance situation: We are a family of 3 (mid 30’s with a 3 year old). Combined...
