Keep it, unless your time horizon is shorter than the fund's duration, in which case you're probably in the wrong bond fund to begin with.

Pick the wrong 5-8 year period, and you won't like what you get. US stocks are really expensive now and have had a really good run since 2009. I could be wrong, but I'm not in the camp that believes the next 5-8 years is going to be super.

My father lives well below his means and has rather substantial retirement savings. He's 67 y/o. I think he plans to glide down to 50/50 by age 70 and leave things alone at that point. Here's my point: I think he always knew he'd be able to save/invest a lot of money and chose to allocate his assets no differently than he would have if he was able to save a more moderate amount.

I guess this goes to part of my question - why would the answer be different if you inherited it? It likely has a stepped up basis so it's a sunk cost fallacy to think you should hold on to it just because of how you acquired it.
What I'm saying is there's no reason to go searching for a land investment if you don't already own it. If you own it, then you'll need to evaluate whether you want to keep it or sell it. I get your point, though.

Any idea whether they offer a generous credit limit to folks with excellent credit score? Asking because many banks with 0% balance transfer offer are also notorious for extending a miserable credit limit (hello Bank of America).

There is so much analyst coverage of US stocks that it is very difficult to beat the index for any sort of prolonged period of time. Allocating a modest portion of your portfolio to carefully-selected, low-cost actively managed funds probably won't torpedo your retirement, but I would only hope, not expect, that it will be a value-added.

Re: How much International allocation is good insurance?

If an investor views a single country equity portfolio, like US only, as a concentration risk they can insure this risk away by diversifying across international markets You might be able to reduce the US risk somewhat. We're pretty big and it's not so easy to insure the US risk away, especially when you merely diversify (i.e. still holding US equities). In my mind the biggest risk of a US only portfolio is not a drawdown scenario where US zigs and ex US zags, but a period of prolonged underperformance of US due to current valuations. For the 12 year period ending in 2021 US stocks returned 16%/year. This is a phenomenal return for equities but it is not normal or sustainable. US stocks have become more richly valued than ex US stocks and ...
