I love it in the winter. I love it the day after a hard workout. It really warms and soothes muscles for me.
Its one of my favorite purchases.
I found it on craigs list for 30$, the heater was bad. Put in 400$ for a new heater and its worth its weight in gold.

You may want to look at lss running. zone 2. (80/20 running) Great books for programs with running and lifting are tactical barbell's green protocol. One big thing I took away from this is DELOAD weeks. You need to let your body recover to get stronger/faster. Push push push all the time same intensity is asking for a breakdown . we love our sole treadmill. I went to dicks to try running on a few and really like the feel and space it provided.
I then spent time on facebook marketplace looking at them. Found someone who wanted it gone and we picked it up for a lot less then retail.
we did mount a tv in front of the treadmill so we can watch youtube vids of people running on different trails because it helps with how boring a treadmill is lol.

Re: Wood floor installation questions
I would go to local dealers vs the home depot or lowes.
I went to a local place found wonderful figured hard maple flooring and just on a whim asked how much to install. The price was low it might have added 1k to the price. I went with them and I am so glad i did.
A buddy of mine is dealing with home depot installers and there were a lot of communication issues. even using google translate there were issues which were hard to rectify as he was getting wood look tile installed and a heat mat under it.
honestly shop around find what you like and then look.
we have zero carpet in the house now. just laminate in two rooms and the rest is hardwood.

I am super lazy when it comes to working out but as I age (40+), I am starting to see the need even more. I googled around and found out that rowing works out most of the muscles. So I bought a rowing machine a couple of weeks ago and noticed that my abs (and to some extent chest) don't get much workout, in that I don't feel it. I am thinking there might be other parts of the body that rowing doesn't do a good job. Question 1/ I am thinking about adding plank for abs and pushup for chest. Is it good enough? The easier and less complicated the workout, the better. 2/ what other areas of the body need additional workout? Thanks! So a book series that has truly helped me is the tactical barbell series. its set up for military leo firefighters...

We have a sauna and love it. We were able to find a sauna on Facebook marketplace for 30$ yep $30. it was an older cedar one that can fit two people comfortably and comes apart with four screws per wall and the top and bottom are separate pieces.
Where i spent the money was getting a new heater for it that was $400 and worth every penny. At least 3-4 times a week in the winter i use it. It warms me up and helps with muscle soreness too. I truly feel better after a sauna.
We built an outdoor tent sauna at my buddy's cabin and would use rocks to heat it but that got old quickly. I just preheat mine for 30 mins and i am good to go.

Thank you!! **** I like two things: outdoors (mainly hiking) and a logical argument about any topic. It is easy to do hiking. All I need is time and a good weather. But, for the argument, I need someone to take the opposite position, which most people dislike, so I don't do it enough. Thus I only have one hobby and I need to develop another one. Ideally, the new hobby should be easy to start, is inexpensive, and has some long term physical or mental benefit. I’m looking for a lawn tractor that can also handle pulling a trailer wheelbarrow type attachment for hauling fire wood and mulch, and a mulching and bagging system for spreading clippings and helping with leaves.
Anyone have any recommendations?

Hi everyone. Hopefully there are some mental health practitioners here who can provide some career advice for my daughter. She is 16 and a HS junior and very much wants to study psychology in college and pursue some sort of career as a psychologist or therapist. This is a deep interest of hers and she has been reading psych books since about age 10 and is basically already the therapist for all her HS friends. I don't have a good concept of the career prospects and pathways in this field. She says she wants to work with youth (but probably not in a school setting) or possibly even prisoners. I'm not sure exactly how to direct her and what kind of career advice to give as this is completely out of my field. College applications are coming i...

Hi All! I want to start packing my lunch more often this year. Buying lunch, even a few times a week (often subway or the local grocery store sushi), is an expense I can live without, especially as the experience isn’t particularly fulfilling. What do my fellow frugal (and somewhat healthy minded) bogleheads put in their sack lunches? Additionally, how do you prep/pack? Do you do it the night before? The week before? I don’t mind a very simple lunch, and will likely start with just rice and (black or kidney) beans. The problem is that my brown rice doesn’t store great and is sometimes pretty unappetizing 18 hours later. Edit: I also don’t have a refrigerator or microwave (school teacher that teaches in an annex) so I’m personally pretty li...

My biggest mistake would be going for education as a career. We dug ourselves out, and finally were able to save for retirement and a college fund for our kiddo but credit card debt was our biggest mistake by far.

I am in the market for some new hiking shoes. I don't want the typical "hiking shoe" as I have a pair of Keen's already for that, which I really like. I want something more lightweight. I have narrowed it down to the 2 pairs in the subject title. I have a pretty "average" foot, not wide, not narrow, average arch (I think?). The hiking I do varies, nothing ever crazy technical. Just regular trails, fire roads, some ruts/water crossings etc. Anywhere from 3-15 miles or so at a time. I have read/watched a lot of reviews on both shoes. My main questions are: Hoka - I am concerned about the stability, lots of reviewers mentioned they are not good in technical areas due to the lowers of the shoe? The "tongue" of the...

We have normally gotten snow tires for cars, and have had them studded. We normally put them on around thanksgiving and take them off easter time.
We live on a steep dirt/gravel road that gets plowed when they can and no ice melt thrown on it just cinders.
Another trick is to put a bag or two of sand in the trunk to add a bit more weight to the back tires, i have four bags in the bed of my truck.
All of our school buses have chains, and some of our roads where the kids get picked up are considered winter roads where the buses will not travel them so parents have to bring the kids down off a hill to a central place to get them picked up.

First you have to figure out what part of the self are you trying to help. Sometimes you come across a book that speaks to you even when you were not looking for it. For me, Can't Hurt Me by David Goggins was the book that helped me change my life. Its a great book for how introverts internalize ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and how to break free from them. Its not easy to self help, or help the self, you have to do the work you have to get in there and make changes that will upset the balance of your entire life and a lot of people are not willing to take it that far. Its tiring, draining, difficult work (ask any psychologist). But you have to know the WHY. If you cannot answer why are you putting yourself through the changes you wi...

Re: how to track distance run
I've been doing a bit more running of late and would like to have a better idea of distance covered. I guess it might also be nice to track heart rate, pace, and other stats, though none of this is imperative. I guess I figured I would just buy an Apple watch, at some point. I am already in the Apple ecosystem with an iPhone and various devices. But, now I am reevaluating and think an Apple watch may not be a good idea. For example, the battery life is fairly short. Also, while I'm willing to spend the money for something that will serve my needs, I am reluctant to shell out a lot of money only to feel "bad" if the watch ends up not getting used much. Maybe the new Fitbit Inspire 3 could serve my needs? Even then, it seems that I...

Re: Cross country move house to house
when we moved from nc to pa, we used abf u pack. they send a tractor trailer, you fill it with everything, they put in a bulk head and you only pay for the space you use. it was cheaper then a u haul and dragging cars behind us.radiowave wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 9:41 pm Found our dream transition to retirement home in NC, went to contract and just did the home inspection with just some minor issues. Plan is to close in late January. Will be moving from CO to NC. Been quite a while since we did a big move so looking for any suggestions especially from those who recently did a move. We are in a 3BDR 1 Den approx 2700 sq ft house and moving to another similar house at 2300 sq ft. Thanks!

we had three skylights take out of our roof when we redid the shingles. You might need a roofer to go up and take a peak.

Re: Best way to remove and replace a bicycle crank arm (which tools)?
If you cant get it back in, (and i think its reverse threaded) and you need to pull the arm off there are a bunch of different tools.
I would try wrapping it with plumbers tape the teflon stuff you might be able to get it past what is stripped to hit the threads.

facebook has a group called "life after teaching". It helps teachers transition to other careers. its very helpful.
I would look at a gate agent and see what the benefits are. you could be able to fly free discounted to various parts of the world. Its something I am thinking about doing when I hit 55 and can take early retirement from education.

Layers are what you need. IF you start getting warm take a layer off sweating will make you cold when you stop moving.
I am a huge fan of eddie bauer and their first ascent line. Its not bulky, layers well, and has a lifetime warranty. have fun on the trip!!

Re: what is your weekly workout routine?
Monday Bench press, back squats, pull ups, Tue. Run (miles), Wed. Bench press, squat, pull ups, Thursday Run (5 miles), Friday Bench press, Squat, Dead lift, Saturday (long slow run). Sunday work around the house. Its a version of Tactical Barbell 3. There are percentages of my 1 rep max that I do on the lifting days, and I wait 2-3 mins between sets. Normally 5 sets, 5 reps. the book is great highly recommend it.

Re: Weight training 3-7 method
I have found reddit to be very helpful with lifting questions. The program I am currently doing is tactical barbell (book 3). Its a percentage of your one rep max every week. The program I am doing (there are multiple different ones) is bench, back squat, pull ups (2xs a week) and bench, back squat, dead lift once a week. the golden rule is rest 2 mins or more between sets but at least 2. 5 sets 5 reps (unless your close to the one rep max some weeks are 95% so you would do 3 reps. I run the other days. I have to say when I was doing push pull legs, i was doing too many exercises and never saw improvements. Same when i was doing hitt workouts with a trainer. This program has really helped me with strength, and keeping the injury bug away fr...

gpay $99 a year for as many cameras as you have so if you have 1 camera 99 if you have 4 its still only 99 and they store all your recordings . then pay back on your phone app, or computer app.SwampDonkey wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 9:01 pmWill Ring cameras record 24/7 and is there the ability to have it displaying a live feed on a monitor?forgeblast wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 6:31 am A ring camera will let you live view. you can wire one into your lights, or if you have a plug you can plug one it. just need wifi connection there.
My impression was they were similar to Blink: record after sensing movement and only able to view on an app.

Re: Home Gym / Peloton? - Ditch Gym Membership
Look at garage gym reviews, its a great site with examples of a ton of equipment.
We slowly built up a gym over the last few years. We have a concept rower, rogue rack with bar and bumper plates, titan bench. Bands, dumbbells, kettle bells etc. But I am currently doing base building on tactical barbell 3 (book) so I really only need the rack and bench. Think about what you use when you go to the gym and search facebook marketplace. If you want high end look for rogue, one step down titan.
I have an older spin bike but would love to trade that in for an assault bike.
For flooring we used horse stall mats from tractor supply.
