Re: Help with moving from an Advisor to a self managed account

I would simply hire Vanguard Personal Advisory Services for 0.30% of assets. I believe they are 100% fiduciaries. Then if you pre-decease your wife, she will be fine with VPAS I think.

Re: Bad Investments Within Non Profit Endowment

Thank you for all of your responses. If anyone else has experience with bad people making the investments for a non-profit, it would be great to hear from you.

Bad Investments Within Foundation

I have been contributing to a foundation for years. I just found out that the volunteer investment committee consists of people who (in their day jobs)are professional financial advisors from Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs and UBS. The foundation's money is now being invested in high expense, actively m...

Have you thought about getting your cash value from GWG? They buy permanent life insurance policies and usually give you more cash than the insurance company would.

Re: Using Vanguard’s advisors

What if your heirs know nothing about investing? Isn't Vanguard Personal Advisory Service better than having them own a life strategy fund?

Re: Using Vanguard’s advisors

I know most people on this forum do not believe in tilting toward small and value, but does anyone know if Vanguard PAS would be willing to do it?

I think your 401k can only be rolled over into ira in your name only.

New Book: "Turning Financial Planning Right Side Up" by Jeffrey Small

Has anyone else read this yet? Thoughts? It's pretty interesting. Author recommends people in their 50's to get rid of all equities and instead invest in individual preferred bonds, individual corporate bonds, mlp's, bdc's and reits. He thinks you have a great chance of smoothly getting 5% per year....

Re: Does anyone here with net worths north of $1 mil use financial advisors?

I pay a boglehead-like ria/cfp for one hour of his time each month. Every month i pay whether I use an hour of his time or not. He doesn't touch my money, he just gives advice. He's helped me on various financial planning things, and he would help my wife if I pass away before her. He's an insurance...

Have Enough, Should I now time market?

Would appreciate thoughts! If you have enough to support yourself in retirement (assuming 3% annual inflation) and you know there will be a correction to the economy and market, should you cash out at some point and watch from the sidelines. If I understand Merriman, even he market times to a degree...

I would move old 401k to vanguard ira. T Rowe price is too expensive. Although then you would lose opportunity for back door roth.

Very scary that Vanguard PAS was so bad. I have recommended that to a bunch of people who have no financial clue. Hope it works better for them.

Re: About Vanguard advisors: opinions, thoughts?

Thanks Friar1610. I have the EXACT same issue to deal with. My wife has no clue about investing and personal finance, and really has no desire to learn. (Although, she has been saying for years that she wants to learn, but has never made the time to learn from me.) I don't want her using a regular a...

Re: About Vanguard advisors: opinions, thoughts?

It sounds like Vanguard Personal Advisor Service recommends mainly total us stock fund, total international stock fund, total us bond fund and total international bond fund. Do you know if they are also willing to offer a Swedroe/Merriman type portfolio including specific index funds related to smal...
