Re: Latest on Yieldstreet
It is unrealistic to expect risk free returns of 10%+. But given the collateral underlying most of these investments, the downside risk is lower than stocks. I have a 20% allocation to alternatives including cargo vessel and real estate loans through Yieldstreet and plan to add to those with the nex...

Re: Peer to Peer (P2P) Lending - What are the realistic returns?
I started investing in Lending Club in 2012. Mostly purchased C through F Notes and was very happy with the steady 10% + returns. However taxes were a nightmare the first year so I switched to investing through an SDIRA. Returns in the first couple years were about as expected - far better than bond...

Re: What is your annual cost for health insurance?
Retired 61 yo with 58 yo wife. $212/month for subsidized platinum plated silver ACA plan. $950 deductable, $1900 max OOP, and 15% coinsurance. Thank you Cyclesafe. I could have elected unsubsidized (+2%) group health insurance from my previous employer when retiring but the cost was over $17k/year 5...

Re: ACA - Silver plan cost sharing worth it?
Thanks jailbert. That's an important consideration that I forgot about. I may be going bronze next year for the first time since retiring. Need to figure out what KY is doing regarding loss of cost sharing.funding.

Re: ACA - Silver plan cost sharing worth it?
It probably does not make sense to do Roth conversions since the effective marginal tax rate is about 25% due to loss of ACA subsidies. See: https://thefinancebuff.com/tax-calculator-aca-obamacare-subsidy.html And if you anticipate any significant medical expenses, there are big benefits to the cost...

Re: Landlord Nightmare
Kentucky recently passed a law invalidating internet emotional support animal certificates. Now you must show proof from a local therapist. What a relief. The number of emotional support pit bulls is amazing. is very difficult to find rental housing that accepts pit bulls so this has been the defaul...

Re: Swedroe: Look Beyond 60/40 Portfolio
Why no mention of other lending funds that are available without an advisor to accredited investors? I would guess that many members of this forum qualify for Accreditation. Funds such as Broadmark and PPR have a good track record and 11% yield. Alphaflow is newer but over 8% return. All these alter...

One more tip for handling these calls. Don't bait the scumbag unless you don't mind disconnecting your phone. They can be very vindictive so I learned. Best to just hang up.

Re: Has the "bond bubble" caused you to change your allocation?
My asset allocation is strongly influenced by the current low interest rate high CAPE environment- 15% Alternatives (Lending Club and AlphaFlow real estate debt) returning 8%+ 25% Guaranteed income fund in 401k at about 2% return 15% Bond funds (mix of SCHZ, SCHP, and BND) 45% Stocks (50/50 US and I...
