Also, is this that surprising? Sure, people near large cities can have high-paying jobs, but look at middle america. Look at teachers in many states needing to work several jobs to make ends meet. Americans with jobs making even $60k/yr have a skewed perception of just how many low paying jobs are ...

I would stop looking at it in the longterm. Just stay with it until 40 and if you keep doing what you have been doing you should be able to retire or take a fun job. Not so bad when you only have 6-8 years to go...

I gave them a portion around $450k and I will pay .9% with no other fees except expense fees on funds and etfs and they are very low

I don’t anticipate needing to cut, but the market may not be kind. I would cut food budget. Let house cleaners go. Stop buying books and magazines - library instead. No movies in theatre. I am retired so no longer contributing new money. Not sure what Fidelity use to be like, but now their service is under 1% management fee and all funds have very low expense ratios. Most are under 0.1% way under. Not sure if I will test drive this service with a portion of my money but I like the id...

For how long? You can chart the total return of VBTLX and VMMXX and see that VBTLX outperforms in the long run. That was in a bond bull market. Personally I would not have spent the time typing all the OP did over $100...But if you do, I can not believe you told your 90 yo mom she had to give up something (suffer) to help her niece...just cruel!! But I guess you felt you needed to teach a 90 yo a valuable life lesson.

I think a more balanced approach is better...keep my income in the 12% bracket! At least convert to roth ira to try and bring down balances before RMDS kick in
