Re: $400,000 gift to stepdaughter

College is not the only way to be financially secure. Why didn't she go to college? Was money the limiting factor? Does she have some other passion in life? Where does she live now? Are you supporting her financially? Listen not all kids "get it" at the same time. She's 28. She has plenty of time to...

Re: PIP coverage/NJ Autoinsurance

I have learned this lesson the hard way. If you make your health insurance primary and have an accident which you have a lawsuit on your health insurance will put a lien on your file. Meaning that they will have to get paid for every bit of money they paid out because you are suing someone. Ever si...

What to do when you have enough?

I had a very interesting conversation with a friend who's Dad recently passed away. She has inherited a huge lump sum of money and I was telling her how it's best not to touch the principal and live off the interest. She had a very good question that I want to ask everyone here. She asked, "When do ...

Did you ever "win" big?

I know we live in the world of a 3 fund portfolio. But my question is did you ever have a stock pick that paid you a very handsome return?

If you know a recession is coming if I were you I would just short everything and wait to cash in next year.

Re: Why not go 100% stocks?

What I have found extremely interesting in the responses to this post is nobody is asking questions. 1. Do you have any student loan debt? 2. Do you have any other debt? 3. Do you have a mortgage? 4. How about your spouse? 5. Do you plan on working till 65? 6. Do you plan on having kids? 7. What kin...

Taxes for those drawing income

Those of you who are at the draw stage aka retirement. Did your tax saving strategy work as intended? Are you in fact in a lower tax bracket now than when you were earning the money you were stashing away? As far as I'm concerned every retirement vehicle except for a Roth is just money sitting in th...

Re: VFIAX - TD Ameritrade -> Vanguard [Vanguard 500 Index]

Thanks everyone. Just going to increase VTI and it will be a big enough purchase where the fee itself I guess won't matter.

I make 2 large contributions a year to this account so yea.

Re: VFIAX - TD Ameritrade -> Vanguard

So I actually already have VTI in this portfolio. It probably would just be wise to increase my position. Simply put I just need to not have all this cash on hand that's been doing nothing for me. I was actually going to model this after my Betterment portfolio. I don't like to get spicy with my mon...

Just buy the ETF.
Reason I didn't want to deal with ETF's are the fees when adding to the positions going forward vs the funds.

Re: VFIAX - TD Ameritrade -> Vanguard

My spouse owns quite a lot of VFIAX in her TDAmeritrade 401(k). What funds are offered in your 401(k)? Do you have the self-directed brokerage account option available to you? And why VFIAX and not a Total US Stock Market fund VTSAX? Is this an individual 401(k)? Or do you have several employees in...

VFIAX - TD Ameritrade -> Vanguard [Vanguard 500 Index]

Alright everyone. So I have too much cash sitting in my TD Ameritrade 401K and decided that it's time to buy some VFIAX. Of course I just got that wake up call that I cannot buy VFIAX unless I'm with Vanguard! How would you guys proceed? Move the 401k to Vanguard, I own the business, or just buy VOO...
