Re: Open a HELOC? With whom?

I have Prime - 0.5% $1M HELOC with Wells Fargo. My Banker said larger HELOC is cheaper. WF paid for appraisal. No fees. Intro rate was Prime - 2.0% for 1 year. I'm Platinum Honors but BofA offered me Prime + 0.25%. My old HELOC was Prime -1.1% from Schwab but Schwab new rate was uncompetitive.

Re: Should I buy a new rice cooker from Zojirushi?

I have the pressure cooker version
Zojirushi Induction Heating Pressure Rice Cooker & Warmer NP-NVC10
I was told soft and tasty brown rice required higher pressure and temperature. I can’t really tell the difference.

Re: How many paid for kids' college?

I paid for my son’s liberal arts college - nearly $300k. I’m paying for my daughter’s cheaper UC college now. I’ll will pay for son’s professional school starting this summer ~ $80k per year. My parents paid for mine and my siblings thru Law, Med and MBA schools. Education is my parents and my large...

Re: Buy or lease new car

Yes, leasing is more expensive compared to buying and holding a car a long time. I recommend leasing for people who want a new car every 3 years and who don't drive much. I think it's easier than buying and selling your own car. Having owned S-Class, E, CL, MBZ Maybach, I'll attest that a BMW and Me...

Re: Buy or lease new car

My wife is on her third BMW 5. She told the salesman she only wanted to pay $528 (since it's a 528i) per month total including taxes with zero down. The same salesman calls her 4 months before her lease ends and tells her to exchange for another 528i for $528/month. She calls the same salesman and s...

Re: Lease a car or buy a car

Having owned several generations of S class and different E classes over the years, Mercedes are notoriously unreliable cars which are ridiculously expensive to repair.
Thus I recommend lease or buying extended warranty. This is not a car you should own without warranty protection.

Re: Buy or lease new car

My wife thinks exactly like you. She doesn't want any problems. So she leases BMW because BMW covers maintenance for 3 years. At the end of lease, she exchanges for another BMW. She never pays for anything other than gas (regular). In fact, she only leases BMW 5 series because she's familiar with th...

Re: Kitchen refresh/remodel ideas

I'm in the exact situation as you. 90's kitchen. I decided upon total kitchen remodel. Our kitchen isn't bad. Granite island with full backsplash, Viking cooktop (doesn't light, tho), double wall oven. The cabinets are white builder grade. But it's dated and behind our neighbors. So to keep up with ...

Hood liner recommendation

Read all the threads on Kitchen on the forum. Really help me pick up appliances but didn't find much on hood liner. I decided on 48" Wolf duel fuel with griddle. Saleperson recommend a 58" Wolf hood liner (22" depth). I didn't like the vent control and halogen lighting of Wolf or Viking. Wolf had 3 ...

Business bank savings account recommendations

My business bank is Wells Fargo which pays nearly zero.
I didn't mind when my personal Synchrony bank rate was low but now the rate is 1.60%.
So does anyone recommend a business bank where I can park reserve cash. I'm okay with fewer than 6 transactions per month.

thanks

Re: Long Term House—Any Regrets on things you didn’t do?

about 10 yrs ago, I decided to remodel my 20 year old house instead "moving up" because I wanted to keep my low California assessed value. My neighbor house pays 4x my property tax. Below are my recommendations for remodeling. Main goal was comfortable and low cost maintenance home. Exterior garage ...

Re: I am buying a car: Most/Least Reliable Makes?

Avoid first year model changes. When car manufacutures introduce a new model or engine, reliability and build quality suffers. Wait for the 2nd year model. I had a Sienna and Plug in Prius which both first year models that had problems that Toyota fixed in the following years. In fact my 2012 Plugin...

Saving all my cash flow and money for 2017 q4 Estimate Federal Tax. Projected bank balance on January 15, 2018 of <$3k. Should I use my cash reserves ($125k) to pay for Keogh Lump Sum ($36.5k) due by January 10th? otherwise it's 14% of my paycheck over 2018. and pay 2018 Q1 California Estimate tax (...
