Re: Why tax amount determined by software lower than schedule?

Its likely the software is more up to date than you. I meant that it has built in a change or rule that you aren't applying assuming that you entered your data correctly in the software.

Recordkeeping system for retirees

Recently retired and looking at my multiple hard copy 4 drawer record file cabinets this morning. They desperately need updating and new folders created (medicare, estimated tax payments, etc). I decided there must be a better way to keep up with documents and records (many of which are today electr...

Re: Too much house? (nervous 1st time buyer)

Based on your input that the area will continue to grow, I would buy with the expectation that the house will appreciate in value over time. If I needed to relocate or buy another house in the same area at a later date, I would have at least kept pace with the market or perhaps accumulated equity. D...

Re: Relocate for Early Retirement?

Retiring next year myself and have given this some thought. Considerations for me are: 1. Taxes on income (RMD and SS) 2. Access to children and grandchildren and other family members 3. Downsizing house and 3 acre lot to mow/maintain but still will prefer rural to big city 4. I do like to see all 4...

Re: Wine in laptop

Hopefully it is just the keyboard. Plug in a standard keyboard to your USB port from another computer. If you don't have a keyboard you can buy a new one for about $20. A wireless keyboard can be had for less than $40. Get the new keyboard fired up and check out the computer to make sure it is only ...

Re: buying a rental property vs investing more in stocks

Never buy real estate hoping for appreciation. If you are going to buy real estate it must have a positive cash flow.

Re: Does Retirement Planning impact your job performance?

70 years young and notified the company I have worked for for 43 years that I intend to retire just after the first of the year. I have all the money I need for a comfortable retirement. The January 2018 date was picked so I don't have to take an RMD on top of my salary for this year. With only abou...

Re: Crowd funded real estate?

I have looked into Peerstreet for some months. It generally appears to offer real estate first mortgage backed taxable returns of 7 to 8% on an annual basis. Essentially they are cutting the private money lender (PML) out of the existing business cycle. A private money lender would often charge 12% ...
