Replace it off season as suggested. Also ask them to seal all the connections and then get quotes on additional insulation. You will be surprised how much your bill goes down.

Re: Lifetime Tire Alignment

I have bought lifetime alignments from Firestone / Tire Plus on a few cars. You can knock your alignment out hitting a curb hard enough. The lifetime covers as long as you own the car iir, not the tires lifetime. Best to get it when you first acquire the car. Also those complaining about how long it...

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?

Installed my own in-wall light timer by disconnecting the current rocker switch and connecting the Load, Line, Neutral, and Ground Wires on the new timer controller. With the $75 dollar installation fee that I saved, I was able to purchase a voltage tester for just a few bucks so in the future I ca...

Re: Critique my retirement savings strategy

Pay off the home equity and car loan. With the $4000 a month wiggle room you stated, that should be a short term goal. Then invest that monthly amount. Hard to beat a guaranteed 3.5-4% return. And you'll sleep better. Less debt gives you options you would otherwise not have.

Re: Auto repair - Is it reasonable price?

So here's an idea if you ever find yourself in a similar situation.. I had a truck that I loved but was about to sell. The darn check engine light comes on a few days before the inspection deadline. So as I wait in line for the inspection, I clear the codes. Viola I passed! Then I had plenty of time...

No need for that. Guy over on u tube did a great bracket style competition and came up with a winner. Although for most of us any synthetic will do. Project Farm channel on the tube. Ugh. That seems as unscientific as possible, and unrelated to how oil actually works and wears in a real engine (hea...

Re: Auto repair - Is it reasonable price?

Depending on your location that's sounds very high. Easy to call a dealer service department and get an estimate for what you had done. The $150 diagnostic fee is a plain ripoff. You can go to almost any auto parts store and they will read the code for you. A google search will tell you what the cod...

Look at 20 year term, a million should be very reasonable. Also check on a policy for your wife. Once you get the term, cancel the vul.

Hey all, We are looking at renting a car for an upcoming short trip. I had a price question which seemed weird. The Prices for all of the classes of vehicles start at $150 up to about $300 for the time we are there. However, there is a "premium crossover" class compared to a Volkswagen Atlas with s...

If you want to geek out on some really good independent testing, head to u tube and search for Project Farm. That guy is amazing. Professionally tests on his own, at his own expense, a number of items we all use. Including batteries. Personally I have had good luck with Amazon, Rayovac, AC Delco, et...

I have half a dozen cameras. Browning makes quality cameras with a couple models under $200. You can also get some no name cameras on amzon. You will need either an sd or mini sd card depending on the camera. You don't need a huge capacity card. 4-18 gb will do.

Head on over to the lawn forum and you will find a ton of info on your project. I'd also call a local sod supplier. There are many types of bermuda, some of which are more shade and drought tolerant. Establishing by seeding is much tougher than sod. Consider hiring a contractor to remove the old gra...

OP here. I called Sam's Club 10 minutes after they opened. They promised a call back from supervisor, and I finally got the call a short while ago. Here's what he says: 1-They have no control over what tires are/will be sent and they cannot know the tire manufacture date before the tires are sent. ...

Re: 3 year old tires installed (Sam's club). Should I do anything about this?

Ive never heard of this "six" year rule for tires. Who makes this stuff up? I don't know where you live but here in Arizona the freeways are littered with the tread carcasses of tires that have disintegrated. They are not worn out treads either, they are just the results of old tires plus 100deg+ t...

Not gouging at all. Prices went up due to the rise in oil. Expect prices to rise further as we near spring and peak driving season. Happens every year.

+1 on Costco for car rentals, they will be hard to beat. Make the reservation now and check weekly. If rates fall, book and then cancel the original reservation. If you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve then you can decline coverage.

It's likely at that price they are only replacing the valve stem, not the sensor. You should get a new stem when you get new tires.

By all means get another opinion from a tire store. It won't cost you anything and they will be more experienced and will be able to show you any cracking. If you're driving so little, you can get a less expensive tire if the tire dealer recommends replacement. Also be aware that the tire safety web...
