Re: How long should a bodily injury claim take to settle?
Would you mind posting links to the specific resources you used to successfully navigate this process on your own? In particular, I'm interested in the specific sites that allowed you to accurately determine "how much similar claims with similar fact patterns pay" and identify that your s...

Re: How long should a bodily injury claim take to settle?
What metric did you use to determine that your negotiations were "successful", and how do you know you "came out way ahead" versus using a lawyer? So you are suggesting the average joe should become well-versed in state-specific case law? Familiar enough that they can "imme...

Re: How long should a bodily injury claim take to settle?
My wife and I have been involved in 3 rear-end accidents where we were not at fault and I successfully negotiated the settlement for injury and pain & suffering without a lawyer. Also had a successful diminished value claim for the first accident (all accidents were with the same car so I didn't...

Re: Overcontributed to 401k, now what?
Based on what you are saying, I think that Vanguard is correct and you are not over the limit. I just had a similar call with Vanguard regarding their website showing an amount different than my expectation. 2018 was my first year with this job and with having Vanguard as my 401k provider. My last p...

401k Rollover Help
I am trying to get a rollover started for my wife's 401k plan and I am running into a problem. We are being told that even though she is 100% vested in her employer match, she is restricted from rolling over those funds for 5 years (or turning 65, which is 20+ years away so doesn't help). There is a...

Re: Is this rollover restriction correct/allowed?
I would think the employer can put any conditions it wishes on the money the employer has seperately contributed to the employee's account. The money would not be the employee's until all the conditions the employer has imposed have been met. Employers can do a lot of things to encourage employees ...

Is this rollover restriction correct/allowed?
My wife is likely to be leaving her current job for a new company just after the new year. She will be restricted from their 401k for full year of service, so my plan was to rollover her current 401k to Vanguard. Her current 401k is through Wells Fargo and the offerings, fees, and interface are less...

Re: Car accident - was directed to sign release
I have a friend who is an insurance adjuster; You will not get diminished value. The only time they ever even think about paying this is if you have a high end car. 100K+ Pain and suffering - Ask for 2-3X of the total medical costs and negotiate from there. Medical Bills - They pay them all in full...

Re: Best 401k Employer Match Structure
My tech company has the following:
50% on first 6% during the first 2 years
75% on first 6% for years 2-5
100% on first 6% for years 5+
Fully vested from day one. Very inexpensive boglehead friendly funds/trusts that make Vanguard admiral shares look expensive.

It took awhile but I finally found the activity monitor, I was going to post a screen shot but I don't see how to do that. This is what I see on the activity monitor. Physical memory 8.00 GB Memory used 3 GB Cached files 3 GB The memory pressure is a full green bar. The biggest numbers I see in the...

Re: New Box Spring?
It's not uncommon for the warranty to be void if you do not get the box spring. The last 2 mattresses I bought ($800 queen & $2000 king) there was only about $100-150 cost for the box spring on the invoice.

Re: iPhone Screen Replacement
It's only $129 at Apple and a genuine part that gets fully calibrated. Seems like a silly reason to save around $20 just to end up with a cheap knock off screen that will likely have an ugly blue tint and a higher rate of failure. Apple no longer has any restriction on servicing phones that have non...

Re: Where to buy new iPhone
Apple store. It's unlocked and if there's any type of recall or improvements they'll fix it (think iPhone 6s battery). If you get it from a carrier they won't. The warranty is not at all dependent on where you purchase your iPhone and any replacement program will be valid as well. The only issue is...

Re: iPhone 6S battery issues
If you have AppleCare and your phone is less than 2 years old (which it is if it's a 6s), they will replace your phone for free even if you have less than 80% battery capacity, regardless of whether your phone was included in the recall. They will replace the battery for free in this situation, not...

Re: Two iPhones, one iCloud account, ring just one phone
You will find the setting to disable that feature in the FaceTime settings. I would suggest not using the Apple ID for FaceTime or Messages on either device (just use the phone number) and use the shared Apple ID for iCloud and iTunes/App Store only. Have you considered Family Sharing as an alternat...

Re: Impact driver (and possibly drill) recommendations
I have an 18v Makita brushless drill/impact driver combo that is fantastic. I put it on the same level as the Milwaukee sets. These types of combos are on the clearance racks at Home Depot every other month for $150-175 so if it's not an immediate need, keep an eye out and you can score a fantastic ...
