My wife has a 401k plan at her job. She contributes 6%. Her company matches @ 100% for the 1st 3% and 50% for the next 3%. Over the course of a year, total contributions are over $22k. The 457b plan is a governmental plan.
"IRISH" was a typo. It should have been IRA.

This literally just happened to my wife and me. We liquidated an IRA for a home purchase. When it was all said and done we paid a 10% penalty, the cash boosted our income so we were in the 33% tax bracket. For good measure we were hit with the Alternative Minimum tax as well.
