Re: Reviews on Honda Insight

If you drive about 10K miles a year (your 24 mi/day plus weekend driving), that's around 200 gallons saved a year, or around $600/yr depending on fuel prices where you are. Check the pricing on comparably equipped trim levels of the Civic vs Insight to decide if the savings pay off for you - I susp...

Re: Reviews on Honda Insight

Agree with other posts that mileage can vary quite a bit with a hybrid based on driving style. If you're driving style is jack rabbit starts and then sudden braking at the last second, you will not be happy with the mileage. With the little bit of 70 mph highway driving I've done, with just me in th...

Re: Reviews on Honda Insight

Thanks, Absolutely. It will be interesting to experience it. Some people have described it as a "space sound". One person on an Insight forum said, "...my take about the acoustic harmonic music issue...well...to me it almost sounds like the kind of music you would hear in an IMAX planetarium while ...

Re: Reviews on Honda Insight

In normal commute, It's a non-issue. On the hwy @ 70+ mpg it's not been an issue either. I don't try to get to 70 as fast as I can, but accelerate just as most traffic around me is and I have not run into times when the engine needs to race excessively. I have intentionally pushed it to force the en...

Re: Reviews on Honda Insight

I purchased an Insight a few weeks ago and am very pleased with the vehicle. I have the Touring model and through 3 tanks have averaged just over 55 mpg. My commute is maybe 20% highway (congested) then side roads - approx 23 miles one way. I had a Fusion Hybrid before and understand the best way to...

Re: Who else is doing home automation?

We have a second home that we've added a bit of automation to. Motion sensor cameras with cloud storage. WiFi Thermostat. Several outlets/lights that can be operated remotely or be turned on and off according to 'scenes'. One of the more important things we did was set up a few moisture sensors in k...

Re: Road trip - Dallas to Kalispell MT - which vehicle and must sees

I like that, not sure about Telluride though as that would require us to back track to get there. Our original thought was to keep heading North out of Silverton up to Grand Junction, then continue north on 139 towards Dinosaur Natl Monument, but researching 139 tells me that road is not the best, a...

Re: Toughest Purchase of my Life. Engagement Ring time

Agree that 'two months salary' as amount to spend on a ring is pure marketing. Way back at that time, I bought a reasonable ring, then later bought a larger stone to mount into the same setting, had the smaller stone put into a basic ring. Looking back, we spent under the norm as per marketing, but ...

We'll likely spend the night in Jackson, head out early am next morning to catch a few Yellowstone attractions, then back on the road.

@ Random Poster.
Appreciate the tip, DW is a book person and generally likes to pick up books on areas we visit, especially books on the history of the area.
Will try to get by Bozeman Library to check what books may be of interest in the coffee shop there.

Re: Road trip - Dallas to Kalispell MT - which vehicle and must sees

@4nwestsaying - Indeed, will be hard to return to Dallas. @TxAg - We've been to Kalispell once before, for a wedding, but flew in and out pretty quick with no time to explore, looking forward to this trip. @invest65 - Neither of our vehicles could squeeze into spaces a Spark can. I'm guessing parkin...

Re: Road trip - Dallas to Kalispell MT - which vehicle and must sees

Plan would be to hit Yellowstone on the way there, but could make time on return to detour back there if need be. Our route will take us right through Bozeman so we'll have to put the dinosaur museum on our to do list. Regarding Durango, I've been reading what I can find regarding the fires out that...

Re: Road trip - Dallas to Kalispell MT - which vehicle and must sees

Good to know about the passes being available at local REI stores, will pick the next one up locally.

If 4 cyl's worked fine for you, I would think our hybrid would be be fine as well, so it's down to preference as to which vehicle we ultimately decide to take.

Appreciate the comments.

Re: Road trip - Dallas to Kalispell MT - which vehicle and must sees

After thinking about it, dealing with traffic through National Parks would be well worth it as who knows if/when we would make this trip again. The question then is, which would be the better route up to the Teton's, as mapped, or come up through Jackson via 191 or 189/191? https://www.google.com/ma...

From Kallispell, head up the road to Whitefish. There are a variety of good restaurants and bars. We like Abruzzo and the Great Northern Bar & Grill. Head to Glacier and drive the Going to the Sun Road.
Glacier and Whitefish are both on the agenda.

Road trip - Dallas to Kalispell MT - which vehicle and must sees

Greetings fellow bogleheads. Wife and I will be embarking on a 2 week road trip to Kalispell in a couple weeks. Looking for input as to what vehicle might be the better choice for the trip. Our choices are a Fusion Hybrid and a V6 Explorer, both 2015's. Wife says it's a toss up comfort wise. I know ...

Re: Save all this money, what do you splurge on?

A little larger home than we really needed pd with cash after selling old home (nice gain on prior home). A second home in a historic area near where my wife's family all live - we try to spend a week there monthly. Bought new cars for myself and DW a couple years ago with cash. Traveling to interes...

Re: Why pay cash for a car?

Last time we bought a new car we financed through the dealership which gave us an extra rebate, then immediately paid the loan off. Prefer to not have payments, and agree that knowing you're essentially paying cash tends to limit option creep.

I know this is several years late, but I'll post it anyway. Wife and I took lessons several years ago (from an independent instructor) so we could do more than 'sway' at an upcoming wedding. We took a number of private lessons, learned the basics of a few dances and had fun at the wedding. We contin...
