I owned all of the stocks in my portfolio at the time of contest submission, little expecting the YTD market drop. All of my positions are long. I have beaten the benchmark so as far as I'm concerned I've won. Beating the benchmark is the only expectation I've had for this. As it turns out, two of my long positions are down and one is up — not a very good distribution.

Now to start thinking about the 2023 contest.

Re: Refund of Social Security Overpayment Question

From your earlier post here, which you've edited out and replaced it with the current one, I think you're now asking the wrong question. As I understood your earlier post, your spouse filed for Social Security retirement benefits at her FRA of 66 a few years ago, and you then filed something that you thought would get you spousal benefits (it wasn't clear what you filed but you were born in 1952). If you filed a restrictive application for spousal benefits based on your spouse's record, you should be ok assuming you were not disqualified from receiving those benefits because of something like Government Pension Offset. The demand from SSA that you might have been overpaid benefits, while you're in the pipeline for receiving SS on your own ...

40 acres in Trust Sale Question

I and a relative are selling some land. The original trustee died in 2011. The trust still owns the land 10 years later. Do I and the relative get to value the land as of the sale now or do we have to pay taxes on the increase in value.

Or does the trust have to pay the taxes on the increase in value.

Any help or links to previous threads I will greatly appreciate.

Thanks for the help.

No.

Have you looked at the expense ratios (ER) of the funds you hold at TRP? They tend to be pretty high when compared with Vanguard, Fidelity and Schwab, for example. If the ERs are indeed high then your bigger concern here should be finding a new, lost-cost firm to hold your 401k / IRA going forward.
I agree with this. Someone I know has 6 figures at TRP. I ran the numbers on TRP versus Vanguard and the difference was noticeable.

I also like the idea of each sibling getting whatever mom wants to give and investing it on their own. I know of a situation where some inherited things are owned in an LLC and the 3 siblings don't get along at all.

Hopefully mom would consider giving each sibling a separate gift and all the siblings could handle dealing with mom's generosity with love and dignity and gratitude.

I'm well aware of the ongoing cost of AUM arrangements.

I got the impression that the $5,000 was for a "one-time" look at someone's finances, not an ongoing relationship.

Of course, there's always the free model of using the portfolio review here on Bogleheads.

On forecasts I like Jack: “Nobody knows nothing” If nobody knows nothing, that would seem to point in favor of holding market weight positions in U.S. and International. Or maybe equal weight with rebalancing. Many Bogleheads tend to shun all predictions except for one, it seems: US outperformance. “The three largest countries in the international index [EAFE] are Great Britain, Japan and France, and to bet those countries will do better than the U.S. in the long run is a bad bet.” -- Jack Bogle link I have had investing advice since about 1980 that could have been better.
