And so on. Pick any random interest and you can make a similar comparison. The general public has been convinced by marketing that we cant do anything for ourselves anymore and we must hire expensive "experts" for everything. This. Plus many people I know just do not want to make the effort to lear...

Re: Sanity Check, or does it even matter if I'm sane?

Our property tax, pending this year's reassessment, appears to be $24k/year. This thread is not current, but in case someone finds it in passing, I apparently was dyslexic when entering our property tax. It's $42k, NOT $24k. Wishful thinking, I guess. . $42K ??? So THAT'S what it's like to live on ...

We keep two years deductable amount in cash and the balance in Vanguard LifeStrategy Conservative Growth which mirrors our overall target AA of 40/60. While working it was used as additional tax advantaged space but since retirement we use it for medical expenses.

Retired this year and will be in 10% marginal bracket with a still working spouse. While working, household was in 25% bracket. Plan to be in 0% bracket after spouse retires.

While I never received this advice directly, I believe it is sound and agree with it. Press on Regardless! Even the best laid plans can get derailed by life, so it is important to know, things might not go smoothly (i.e. medical, divorce, etc.) So IMHO Press on Regardless of set backs is an importan...

We have 401k, 403b, HSA, IRA, and Roth IRA accounts spread among four institutions. Including management / admin fees our all in expenses are 0.199%. Looking to do some transfers out of old plans that could get down to 0.14% or so. These are all mutual funds, no ETFs.

This is a " I have a buddy that...." anecdote so take it with a grain of salt. I have a buddy that went with a hybrid. Paid around 1500 for the tank. A few years (5 or 6) later the electronic controller stopped working. Would have been 500 for the parts. Since he did not notice much if any electric ...

Yes, I remember him from NBR. Great broadcast voice, flawless delivery, yet somehow he seemed trustworthy and a nice guy to boot. Sad to hear of his passing. steve +1 on the voice and delivery and persona. NBR was also the first finance show I watched as a younger lad. Reading the article, it seems...

Another American Century user here. Of my DW's Florida 403b plan offerings they were the best. We used one of their target retirement funds with a 0.84% ER. Website and phone assistance has been satisfactory. They also offered a closet S&P 500 index fund with a 0.54% ER. Had to use them after the pl...

Have you played with any Monte Carlo simulations to see what the historical differences of your AA changes would be? Might be a useful exercise to see how they would have worked out in the past.

Re: Roll Call for the Retirement Class of 2017!

April 1, 2017! The decision to leave this early has been much tougher than I had ever expected. I'll be taking a huge 30% hit in my pension for leaving 5 years early, and there will be 5 years' less savings. So retirement income will be significantly reduced compared to waiting until 60. However, t...
