Re: What do I need to know about becoming a teacher in California?

I did taxes for 30 plus years in SoCal. I had quite a few teacher clients covered by STRS. Most made a decent salary also. They always seemed to have a great lifestyle while working and when they retired their lifestyles only seem to improve. I had a few couples where both individuals were teachers....

Re: Big Hospital Bill - Anyway to negociate ?

If the bill is accurate, why should the rest of us subsidize your medical expenses via higher premiums and other costs? You chose your insurance and rolled the dice. Get a payment plan. Bluntly, you owe the dough.

Re: Tax return filed 4/3/19, still no refund received. How screwed am I?

If you claimed refundable tax credits, processing takes longer because it is an area that is abused by identity thieves that file multiple returns just to get the refunds.

Re: Why are you NOT buying rental properties?

My attitude about rentals...and I have heard every story good and bad (I was an EA for 30+)...is that I never want to own an asset that I would not object to using personally....so that said, I own my personal residence (loft in a historic building) and a vintage duplex by the beach. The numbers mig...

Re: Leaving My CPA

I was a practitioner for 30+ years and always tried to strive to educate my clients as to their particular situation and make them a partner in the process. I may see them only once a year despite encouraging them to call (I didn't charge for phone calls unless there was significant analysis require...

Re: Housing: "Super Savers" vs. the "Rest"...

I think the key here is functional/adaptable to changed circumstances. Bogleheads are into value. Many of the previous posts reflect that sentiment. For example, I got the house when I divorced. It was a very nice SFR ranch 3 bd 2 ba that we had remodeled and served our family well. Well, living the...

Re: Executor of Will - Selling House in Poor Condition

Went through this about 2 years ago... 1. Interview real estate agents experienced in the area and with selling houses held by an estate or trust. The right one will have a conbination of business savvy and a "rolodex" full of referrals of estate sales people, handymen, painters, cleaners, gardeners...

Isn't it obvious? People think tax brackets operate like a cliff vs. stair steps.

Re: Tax Audit

This is an income audit. They are looking for unreported income. They will do a bank deposit analysis and compare it to gross receipts listed on your returns, if there are any unexplained deposits the amount will be considered taxable income unless you can prove otherwise. Additionally, they will be...
