Re: Where to put International Stock Fund Allocation

Thanks for the reply. I did read the wiki about tax efficient fund placement. I guess I'm searching to see if the "international in taxable" rule of thumb is just as applicable across all marginal tax rates.

Re: Dependent care FSA

We max our dependent care FSA $5000/year. Because we are in a high tax bracket this saves $2,000/yr. Also we don't qualify for the child tax credit due to phaseout. We pay a slightly higher wage due to the fact that it is taxable and so it works out as about a wash in total cost. But if you are payi...

Where to put International Stock Fund Allocation

I know this questions comes up a lot. Do I put international stock index into taxable or tax deferred? However, I have read through many pages of the wiki and spent quite a while going through older threads and I still have questions. If this is basic then I apologize in advance. Also apologies for ...

Re: Dependent care FSA

You can not use a dependent care FSA if you plan to pay someone under the table. I personally believe you should not pay the nanny under the table for a few reasons. First, you get to take advantage of the FSA. Second, the nanny accrues time in social security for her future. Third, under the table ...

Re: 2017 Relative Tax Efficiency

First, thank you for taking the time and effort to create this spreadsheet. I can tell it will be helpful to me if I can figure it out. I am asking for help knowing that some of these questions will be basic. Thanks in advance. I am just starting my taxable account. All tax advantaged accounts are m...

Re: Please help me understand Schedule H and Nanny taxes

Thanks for your replies. That was very helpful. My payroll company had the 1040-ES forms on the website but I didn't know what they were. I googled how to enter nanny taxes already paid into turbo tax and it was very simple. Since I had already paid the $6300 in nanny taxes, that just reduced my per...

Please help me understand Schedule H and Nanny taxes

We have a full time nanny. I use a payroll service to generate her paychecks and calculate and withhold the appropriate taxes/unemployment. I am struggling to understand what I owe in taxes and what I have already paid. Each paycheck I pay, it includes my portion of social security and medicare taxe...

rebalance based on pre or post tax values?

Thanks for taking the time to reply and I appreciate any input. I did a quick search on the forum and couldn't find the answer to my question. I recently rebalanced my portfolio for the first time. When you look at different asset class values to determine relative percentages and whether you need t...

Re: Review my thinking before doing rollover

I found the TD Ameritrade NTF mutual fund list on the bogleheads wiki. It says the information is from 2012 so I didn't see any up to date info. I have used $10,000 to buy vanguard total bond index and $10,000 to buy vanguard total international stock index. Then I will transfer $80,000 from my form...

Re: Review my thinking before doing rollover

Live soft, Those are good points. Unfortunately my plan only allows me to use mutual funds. No ETFs or individual stocks. I'm not sure why. There are plenty of no fee mutual funds, however they have higher expense ratios (I'm assuming, I didn't check all of them). I am going to go ahead and transfer...

Re: Review my thinking before doing rollover

Thanks for the responses. You are correct that the reason I am not rolling over to a TIRA is to preserve the ability to do a backdoor roth each year. If I rolled over to the TIRA and then did a roth conversion I would get hit with a big tax bill due to high tax bracket. The only rollover I am consid...

Review my thinking before doing rollover

Hello everyone, First, I have been reading the forum as well as Bogleheads guide to investing over the last year or so and have learned a lot. I feel much more secure about saving and investing thanks to these resources. So for that, thank you all very much. Now for my question. I am planning on doi...
