Are you OK with bonds not making coupon payments or lose the NAV, or is your play such that debt ceiling will be averted or short-lived?
You're missing the point. I'm not running to cash because of the debt ceiling. My assumption is that neither are a majority of Boglegeads on this thread. This was a market timing debate. Stick to the OP's question.

Speaking as a commercial airline pilot, you’re making some pretty major correlative assumptions. There are small airlines with poor safety records. There are large airlines with poor safety records. There is no correlation between size and safety.

I wouldn’t call it a quick ride. Traffic is oftentimes horrendous. It’s showing a 41 minute trip right now from South Beach to the cruise terminal.

That means you have access to the TSP. If the NRS 457 is transferable roll it into the TSP.
I want to keep the withdrawal flexibility of the 457. Plus, the TSP hasn’t been much better under this new vendor. The ER’s at Nationwide are actually lower that the TSP funds as well.

Re: Nationwide Screwed Up...Do I have any recourse?

Sounds like Nationwide did what you asked them to do. Nationwide did not communicate well and/or you did not hear. Hard to believe it was not possible to tell what your Roth and non-Roth balances were on account statement in TY22 which would have provided a conclusive outcome to something that was in question as you entered TY22. You can file complaints, but what are your damages? Sub-optimal tax planning? . Basically, yes. It's a dormant account, so I don't necessarily track my statements like a hawk. A letter stating the transaction was processed sufficed for me. Not shirking responsibility. I should have scrutinized my statements a little more. No, I can't necessarily come up with tangible damages but this will cost me money in the long...

Nationwide Screwed Up...Do I have any recourse?

I have a 457 with Nationwide Retirement Services (NRS) from an old employer. At the end of 2021, I was deployed and thus enjoyed the tax advantages of being in a combat zone. Based on my tax situation, I decided to do an in-plan Roth conversion of approximately $30,000. I submitted the request towards the end of December (2021). When it wasn't processed by December 31st, I called NRS to inquire. They advised me that it is not instantaneous and most likely would NOT be completed in TY '21. I requested a stop transaction and was told it would be submitted but NOT guaranteed. I soon received a confirmation letter that the transaction was processed on 1/3/22 thus creating a $30,000 tax liability for TY '22. Fast forward to today. I called Natio...

Re: Volvo owners (2020 and newer): real world reliability, cost of ownership, would you buy another?

I went from an Outback to a 2020 XC60 T6 three years ago. It was a nice step up in terms of tech, comfort and performance. In the three years/25k miles I've owned it I'll give it an 8.5 out of 10 for reliability. There was one engine light that came on and it was a stuck valve that got fixed. It also had to go in for one or two recall fixes, one to do with the camera sensors and I forget the other. I live close to a dealer and they come and collect the car and drop it back the same day, so there was no real inconvenience. FWIW I'd rate the Subaru 10/10 for reliability because it hardly gave me a whiff of trouble in the 8 years I had it. The Volvo is noticeably more thirsty and it needs premium fuel. The first three years' servicing is incl...

1. It’s an at-fault accident. Your rates are set to go up regardless of whether you choose to pay your deductible or pay out-of-pocket. I would venture to say that your claim will have very little effect on the overall rate increase (I’m not an expert, however).

2. Why wait to switch agents? If you’re unhappy with the quality of service, switch prior to the renewal.

juvenho wrote: Mon Mar 07, 2022 8:28 pm I hope bogleheads will help me with the situation I have.
I had a car lease for 3 years and paid about $10,000 within those years.
At the end of term I decided to buy my lease through financing. The total finance amount was 20,000 (including all fees and taxes).
Now, I have an offer from third party (like caravan, Carmax) to but my car for $25,000, which means that they can pay to financing company $20,000 and I will get $5000.
Is this $5000 going to be capital gain for me? Do I need to report it on my 2022 tax return?
Thank you in advance.

If I’m reading this correctly, you’ve paid a total of $30,000 towards this car. You’re selling it for $25k. Thus, no capital gain has been incurred.

I've been trying to help patrons at work get thru the ID.me gauntlet, some successfully, some not. It definitely requires a smartphone + high speed internet + pc or laptop + major carrier phone service (no VOIP or Google voice or prepaid).
Should a poor, unemployed person not receive the unemployment benefits they are entitled to because they don't have a smartphone and live in an area with bad internet coverage?

This is not entirely true.

I’m currently deployed with no access to a mainline carrier. I use Google Voice. Concurrently, I’m lucky if I have 1 MB/s on a good day, if the stars align. I was recently able to set up ID.me access to both social security and the IRS.

If you're primarily looking for a place to park your e-fund, I suggest Vanguard Tax-Managed Balanced Fund (VTMFX).

I never understood why people are concerned about liquidity in today's technological age. I can sell my mutual funds and have the funds wired the same day. You're money is only illiquid to the point that the market could tank on any given day.

Is it possible for one lender to be able to waive appraisal and another can’t? Anyone run into that situation before. If one lender works with Fannie and Freddie while the other only works with Fannie, then it is possible for the first lender to get a waiver but not the second. I don’t believe Better uses Freddie. Best money I’ve ever spent when purchasing a house was on a septic inspection. I spent the extra for a camera inspection of the lines as well. Turned out the only thing that wasn’t in failure mode was the tank (even that was full). The seller had to replace all the lines from the house to the tank, replace the distribution box, and build a new drain field.

Had I not sprung for the inspection, it would have been a $10,000 mistake.

For example if I were in a car accident and in a coma, would the ambulance driver choose to drive me to a different hospital if he sees the ideal medical destination was out of my 'network'?

I carry no insurance cards with me currently, just credit, debit, ID, and subway pass
As a paramedic of 20 years (not an “ambulance driver”) I have never rummaged through an unconscious patient’s pockets for an insurance card. That’s what a billing department is for. If you’re unconscious, you’re going to be transported to the nearest, most appropriate facility able to care for your condition.

Re: Should I get a ping pong table?

Will you use it? That’s a question only you can answer.

I haven’t rented a FiOS router in over 10 years.
Chances are that you are currently using a coaxial cable from your FiOS box outside, which then runs inside and hooks up to your Verizon router.

You need to call Verizon FiOS to get them to enable ONT. Then you can plug-in an Ethernet cable into the FiOS box outside and plug it into the router of your choice.

I think a tech can also come to your house and help you with that if needed.
Did you click on the link? It’s instructions for how to do exactly what you wrote above. The point I was trying to convey was that there’s no need to pay their rental fees.
