Re: Tax Loss Harvesting beginner...

Or wait, does Vanguard just keep writing a 3k short term loss on 1099b, until used up? So no hassle at all There is only a 1099b in the year you sold, showing the entire sale & cost basis. If your loss is 8k, it's up to you (or your accountant) to properly track and carry forward losses. Each y...

Tax Loss Harvesting beginner...

Thinking of grabbing a 8k tax loss harvest, (assuming no sales with gains) Will accountant know to take 3k off income each year, until loss is used up? (3k, 3k, 2k) Or is it like a backdoor roth where you really need to keep notes and be on top of it to make sure the 3k comes off in subsequent years...

Re: paying off all but 1 dollar of CC

I have heard it said that you will build your credit score faster by not paying off your credit cards completely. Rather, pay all but 1 dollar of the balance in order to incur some interest charges. This supposedly helps your credit, according to Intuit among other random places I have heard it. Is...

Re: U.S. stocks in freefall

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is only a short-lived drop and not the beginnings of a bear market. Unemployment is trending downward and interest rates are not inverted yet. I certainly don't buy the argument that this is due to yields going up because yields are virtually unchange...

Re: A 4% move in the Dow and S&P in 12 days? Seems odd

Thanx guys yep I know it's a issue, it's a against the advice I give others, but since the 1/1/18 when was planning to make my 2017 contributions, (and throw any leftover money in 2018 sep,) just looking at that almost straight line up has been a red flag holding me back... *Good news is finally aft...

Re: A 4% move in the Dow and S&P in 12 days? Seems odd

I'm stuck in a holding pattern here, haven't invested sep ira contributions for 17 and 18, waiting for that correction, stressing me out honestly, I should really just throw it in and not look until 19, but I would not be happy if the crash happened tomorrow... Trying to remind myself that even if it...

The empty box scam is real mate, be wary

I'd do some digging on the supposed buyer, before mailing anything valuable,

Additionally if y'all are on a forum together, you should be able to find info there as well...

Re: Taxable to SEP IRA? Is that possible

Taxable to SEP IRA? Is that possible

Quick probably amateur question, I am trying to put money in to a sep ira to save a boatload of taxes before tax day, is there a way to transfer existing vtsax from my primary regular taxable account, without selling and repurchasing as I am trying to avoid the capital gains? Or (as I am not touchin...

Thanx everyone for the fast replies and please of course keep the good advice coming! Perhaps maybe a good portfolio for 90/10 asset allocation, no international? Everything updated above, @SGM If you have capital losses then they would offset any taxes. You could put the symbols for any of your fun...

Basic Boglehead conversion help!

Hey all,I started researching because I noticed September that my overall returns after everything bottom line was roughly 3.5%, and the same thing the year before. I don’t know anything really about investing but it didn’t seem right. Doing some research and trying to learn about the market, I came...
