Re: John Bogle has died at age 89

The epitome of a life well lived. I will be grateful for the rest of my days for everything that Mr. Bogle has made possible for me and my family.
Godspeed.

Re: Buy Lexus CPO now or wait until end of Dec.?

Search dealer inventory on the Lexus CPO site, and let them know that you're looking at several cars. I found that none of the local dealers wanted to budge on CPO's initially, but once one does then you're off to the races. I had one dealer that called my cell repeatedly while I sat at a desk in an...

Re: Wells Fargo (again!) - DOL: "WF pushing 401k's to IRA's"?

The problem is not that Wells was selling IRA's, but rather that they were selling IRA's to participants in existing 401k plans for which Wells was acting as a fiduciary. So the question would be, how did the retail agent find out that a plan participant had left an employer and was eligible to roll...

Re: Vanguard changing stance on social activism

I would not sell Wellesley for that reason, and in before the lock If it gets locked, so be it - The topic certainly seemed actionable to me. It's not meant to be overtly political, I'm just pointing out a public statement by Vanguard outlining their position and intentions. If this marks a change ...

Re: vanguard notice - retiring our old investment platform

I have not converted, and I did not receive this notice - but I did notice that all of those "upgrade" buttons are now missing from my accounts.

Vanguard changing stance on social activism

Just last year we were urged to vote against a shareholder proposal urging socially responsible investing. Vanguard stated that such matters were best dealt with by policymakers, and that they could not address such issues while fulfilling their fiduciary obligations to shareholders. However, in a r...

Re: Should I drink or sell my Pappy 12 year?

You will probably have other opportunities in life to take a profit of this magnitude. You will never again have the opportunity to enjoy a spirit of this quality with friends without significant expense Experiences have a value that can't always be quantified. Cheers.

Re: Time to reach 1M and 2M milestones

So much of this is due to timing, and the vagaries of the market. We first crossed one million in 2000. Took about thirteen years. Shortly thereafter we crossed it in the other direction. Took 11 years after that to get to 2 million. Three years to the next one. Two and a half to the one after that...

Re: Vanguard has switched to brokerage only accounts

I have not converted my accounts yet, but it seems to me that this will remove the short term market risk involved in moving IRA assets away from vanguard. If I can move fund holdings in kind to another firm without having to go to cash, I will then have more control over the timing of the liquidati...

Re: Help with rebuttal to a Facebook post

Interesting that they choose to leave the Vanguard fund out of the column showing return after the load, since this is the comparison that actually matters. Also interesting that they are showing the return on investor shares, when a 10 k investment would qualify for admiral shares. The 11 BP's diff...

Re: taxes on HSA dividends in NJ?

How would you report dividend or interest income in the absence of a1099? Wouldn't that cause a mismatch with the state since the custodian is not reporting a similar amount?

Re: Disheartening to hear this about Vanguard

Depending upon how far back you need to go - the Vanguard site keeps transaction data from 1993. Go into "custom range" and select the earliest date. Highlight the seven columns of resulting data, copy and paste it into an excel spreadsheet, and do whatever you need to do with it. So long as you hav...

Re: Cash in old stock certificate

Tender offers do expire, but the subsequent exchanges are forever. Your share is worth $93. But that money has almost certainly been escheated to the state that you lived in at the time of the merger. Go to missing money dot com and search for your name, I bet you find it. If that fails, you can sta...
