I don't know if I'm just bored or what, but lately I've been looking into buying a new TV even though we don't "need" one. We have a 6-7 year old Samsung LCD 1080P TV now. I'm amazed at how cheap the new 4k UHD TVs are right now and it's tempting me to upgrade, especially now that all the streaming...

In a technical paper, Vanguard recommends to hold some for diversification.
If yes, in which fund(s) and what percent of total bonds?
I welcome your input.

You could do it that way but it is cumbersome. Instead, You can just ignore the partial Roth contribution and do a 100% backdoor Roth. Contribute the 5500 each to the traditional Ira, then convert it to a Roth the next day, here is a tutorial. https://www.whitecoatinvestor.com/backdoor-roth-ira-tut...

depends on tax bracket. once you pass about 1.7% or something in total fees then it becomes questionable.
a taxable account is still a great way to save. need to be more efficient (so total US, total INTL, and muni depending on tax bracket) but thats about it.

yes, in the long run you will master this, and eventually break out all the funds to their individual components and put them in their preferred allocated areas.
its just realizing it might take a year or 2 to get there, and it will not be a massive expense or problem.
