Re: Preferred Stock Index Fund

In addition to the qdi, you can also find preferred that are fixed to floating, or floating rate, which can be quite lucrative during a rising rate environment. Not that we’ll see one anytime soon...

Re: Tax guy my mom hired has me paying suspiciously high tax on investments

This was probably mentioned above, but i didn’t read all of the posts. As your mom, the trustee, for a copy of the 2018 1099 for the investment account. It will clearly state the long&short term capital gains, interest and dividends. As stated above, this is in line with an account this size.

Re: 529 savings?

Thanks for the replies. We get a state tax deduction of 4.25% up to 10k of contributions. We will be exceeding this deduction limit going forward with 18k of contributions per year in total. I have them all in the age banded moderate aggressive state sponsored 529 fund so they have decent exposure ...

Re: How to find the best credit card promotion?

I'm not as familiar with the Citi points, but we churned a Chase Sapphire Reserve & Chase Freedom Unlimited the first year it was available, and made thousands off of Chase. For the novice on here, what does churned mean? Churned/churning refers to getting a card with the intention of maxing out th...

Re: Pay off Phone Bill via Amex Platinum or Debit Card?

I’d suggest using a card with cell phone protection, https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/credit- ... insurance/

I have the chase ink preferred business that gives me 3x points and the protection.

Re: Chase Freedom Q4 category - how to use? [2019]

Using Apple Pay at food store to buy $500 gift cards. Convert to cash via various methods and enjoy a free $55. Do this three times (two personal and one spouse card) and I’m at $115 tax free dollars for an hour of work.

Amex blue cash preferred will give you 6% cash back on groceries (up to 6k per year) and 3% cash back on gas. It currently has a $250 sign up bonus if you spend $1k in the first three months. Penfed Platium is 5x gas and 3x groceries, but not direct cash back. Points valued at about 1 cent per point...

Re: Selling home- Demanding Buyer (Repairs)

I know this may be a late post, but here’s my experience as the buyer in the exact situation. Back in 2014 I found a house in a desirable area (NYC suburb) that I felt was underpriced at $465,000. I had a septic inspection done and was told, while it functiona, it needs a lot of work. As such, the s...

Re: NYS 529 Deduction Question

My apologies for the delay - I was travelling for the holidays. Many thanks for the suggestions. I'll go ahead and call the NYS plan to determine if they offer any sort of "unlimited carryover of excess contributions." Once I receive a definitive answer, I'll post my findings. Thank you again.

NYS 529 Deduction Question

Hello all, Long time reader, first time poster. I'm looking to frontload $70,000 into a NYS 529 plan for my one year old daughter. In NY married couples can deduct $10k/annum, therefore I put $10k in the account last week to cover our 2016 deduction. I plan on putting another $10k in next week for t...
