Re: How much Auto/home liability insurance do I really need?

I've always carried the highest deductibles on home and auto. I"ve always dropped collision and comprehensive when the car was 6 years old. Never signed up for uninsured coverage unless it was required by law. I figured my own medical insurance would cover me for injury and I wasn't interested in su...

Re: Where to put 6 months of living expenses(emergency fund) ?

I've always kept my emergency funds in my Vanguard 500 index fund. Here's why: 1. Since you maintain emergency funds your entire life, you might as well invest for the long term. 2. The funds are available to you a couple of days after you sell. 3. You'll need to be able to live with the volatility....

Re: South Florida Local Chapter

I'm looking forward to attending the Jan 21 meeting in Hollywood. I thought the last meeting (my first) was terrific. A super friendly crowd, and an opportunity to meet new folks and share points of view.

using Roth 401k funds to pay taxes on conversion

15% of my 401k is Roth. 85% of my 401k is non-Roth. I am 63 years old and trying to strategize the best way to convert non-Roth amounts to Roth amounts. Going forward, my plan is to only withdraw RMDs as required by law. I can use funds from my investment accounts to pay the tax bill on a Roth conve...

Re: Roll Call for the Retirement Class of 2018!

12/31/17 will be my last day on the payroll. I'm 63 and my wife is 64. We'll stay on COBRA for a bit. I'll then study up on Medicare and slipstream into the reality of healthcare when not on a corporate plan. Not setting an alarm clock, recreational cycling, some golf, mentoring young start-ups and ...

Re: Anyone went to top 10 business school? Got a 730 on GMAT. Thoughts?

In 1975, when I called my college cost accounting professor to ask him for a recommendation to Harvard Business School, he asked me what my GMAT score was. I told him it was 560. He said I was probably wasting my time, but he would write a recommendation for me. Well, I got in. I think the admission...

Re: Non-fiction bucket list

Any book by Simon Winchester, my favorites

Atlantic
Pacific
The Men Who United The States
Krakatoa
The Professor and the Madman
A Crack In The Edge of the World

While they are great to read, they are even better as audiobooks....because Simon Winchester is the narrator.
