Congrats on the marriage!!! My wife makes about $30K a year in her sole proprietor business 3). Wife does not have the best foundation for financial responsibility and so I want to help her as much as possible. Main area of concern is keeping CC debt under check. She currently has a 6k balance that we will pay down ASAP. is the credit card related to business expenses or more just a general expenses? Usually having an agreed to budget of spending and tracking it regularly will help in controlling/limiting excess CC debt. Something like quicken can track this and provide reports. 4.) Does Solo 401k make the most sense for her and/or our situation? Most definitely - you can at least exclude up to $23.5K from taxes (assuming you are under 50)...

at that income level i would create an S-Corp to save on payroll taxes. Business accounts are definitely a requirement. We use QuickBooks for our bookkeeping which has been a challenge during our 1st year of operation. Thankfully we had a QB consultant help with any issues we had as our CPA and QB customer service were sub-par. A good CPA that specializes in small businesses would be beneficial as well to ensure you get the most deductions/write-offs possible. Solo-401k is the right choice, something i still need to setup for my wife's business. We haven't looked at the S-corp option yet but thanks for the recommendation. Moving forward I my wife's business will generate anything from 90k - 110k in gross revenues so if we can save on taxes...

Blood Testing / Genetic Testing / Methylation Panel
Hello Fam - I'm interested in getting a full blood panel / genetic testing / methylation panel. This is something I've never done before and there are many, many vendors. I'd like to solicit advice and opinions from anyone who's done this before. This is something I want to do on my own - this is not something being prescribed to me by a MD.
From some reading I've been doing it sounds like understanding your methylation pathways is a key to understanding how to provide nutrients to your body. Since I want to have testing done to learn about my methylation pathways I figure maybe its best just to do all the panels at the same time.
Any feedback would be welcome, thank you!

Another interesting read:https://threader.app/thread/1243133211011690499 The number of deaths are no longer expected to be around 500K in the UK. They are now expecting less than 20,000 which is less than the annual flu deaths. Fortunately for my blood pressure, other posters have alreay pointed out what was wrong in that link. Re: Bogleheads community discussion - Coronavirus
Nobody has addressed why we should be heading to a major recession or depression, even with the virus and quarantines, if we are coming off what was supposedly the "best economy ever". We supposedly had historically low employment rates, valuations were completely detached from reality, and yet companies don't have enough liquidity for 3-6 months, despite the huge tax cuts that many of them received in 2018? Maybe our addiction to cheap debt will screw us over more than any virus. I live in a red state where people still aren't believing that this is a problem, and that asking them to stay home on their couch and watch Netflix and get their deliveries to their door is infringing upon their rights to go spend money that they won't...

I lost all hope this weekend when i saw californians out on street, everywhere, acting like there is no virus. Believe me guys, i wanted to believe that we will survive this, but this complete disregard by general public is sad to see. At this point, there is no reason to shut down businesses, its not gonna help. That is why im getting ready for downturn for next few months. And that could be what the President decides in a week or so, that the lockdowns are not slowing down the spread or deaths, so might as well let people earn a living. Or the evidence could show that the lockdowns are working, and so we will keep doing them for another week or two, and then reassess. So if by next week there are 10 thousand people dying of this virus ea...

Re: Fed Slashes Rates to Fight Coronavirus Slowdown WSJ 3/15/20
We're about to find out what happens when our government is unable to save a tanking economy. We already found this out in 2008. Actually, QE and lowered interest rates helped bring the economy back in 2008. It worked because of what caused the 2008 recession in the first place. I think this is a bit different - mainly due to how quickly markets were affected by the virus. I strongly agree with the 'everything bubble'. I think most assets are overvalued, businesses that should've gone belly up years ago are still around, and rampant consumer spending fueled by debt has increased tenfold since 2008. Get ready for negative interest rates everywhere, not just abroad. It's going to eventually be the only way to reduce the cost of capital and i...

I have the ARM designation, though technically the ARM-E which required an ERM exam in addition to the three ARM exams. My understanding is that The Institutes has revised the program starting this year and no longer offers the ARM-E and instead incorporates ERM content throughout the three ARM courses. I agree with jbmitt that the ARM is easier than the CPCU, but I'd already completed the CPCU before ever starting ARM which could cloud my perception. I didn't think the content of 54 was terribly difficult but I did use the Burnham system for all of my ARM studies . . . I relied solely on the Burnham materials with the exception of the practice questions and exam from The Institutes. Curious if you're impacted by the designation refresh? I...

I’m in self-study right now for ARM 54 and I’m kind of getting concerned. Statistics and finance equations are not my strong suit so I’m not sure how to effectively study for this exam.

Re: 1099r
There are many requirements to make a valid rollover contribution including the 60-day requirement. Assuming other requirements are satisfied, you have 60 days from the date you receive a distribution from an IRA or retirement plan to roll it over to another plan or IRA. If you don’t roll over your payment, it will be taxable (other than qualified Roth distributions and any amounts already taxed) and you may also be subject to additional tax unless you’re eligible for one of the exceptions to the 10% additional tax on early distributions. The IRS may waive the 60-day rollover requirement in certain situations if you missed the deadline because of circumstances beyond your control. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/rp-16-47.pdf So if the 60 ...

I "shop" my insurance every year. I scan all my declaration sheets, home info, etc. and put them info one PDF file. I then email it to several local independent insurance agents for quotes. It's a bit of a hassle but will save you lots of cash. Insurance companies are counting on you being too lazy to shop/switch. If you have an established independent agent in your area you’re probably wasting time shopping agents every year. An established agency that has personal lines department has access to a dozen or more insurance companies. Shopping with multiple different independent insurance agents means they are all fighting for the same companies to quote with when one agent could have solicited the market for you now two or more ar...

If you’re successful $200k/year is completely realistic. Many producers earn much more. Many more than that fail and wash out. OP was considering a position with Liberty National Life, which is a low-end company that sells small dollar policies, burial insurance, and probably Medicare Supplement. I doubt that many, if any, of their direct writing agents make $200k per year. I agree that agents at other, higher end life insurance companies can make $200k per year. And I agree that the wash out rate for new hires is VERY high. I should have been more clear in my post. Continuing a thought from a prior post I made in this thread I encouraged the OP at the idea of being a commercial P&C broker and did not encourage pursuing life insurance ...

This is truly an example of “one bad apple spoils it for the rest”
For every example of “shady clients” and “shady brokers” doing unethical things I could provide 20 examples of ethical, professional and respected insurance brokers from those just getting started to those who are well established.
When it comes to being a success insurance sales person, well, the barrier to entry is quite high. It’s not an easy job especially when starting out. Since not many people can do the job the ones that actually can end up doing very well financially.

How about Huntington Library https://www.huntington.org over in San Marino (next to Pasadena). If you or the kids are into history, fine art and gardens then it would be well worth it, IMO. If you or the kids are into the Big Bang Theory show you could also stop by Cal Tech while in Pasadena.
Anyways there’s lots of options - just throwing out another for your consideration.

Re: Leaving Employer to Work for Current Client?
What level are you at? Unless you are at a CXO level, you are overthinking this. The harsh truth is that people are expendable - you will be replaced at your current company and life goes on. I'm not C-Suite... so to a degree I am over thinking this. However, I know how petty my boss is and because of this pettiness I've felt like it was important to really think this through. My position in the company is the only revenue generating position in the entire firm (which admittedly is a small business). So it isn't like my departure can be absorbed into the rest of the sales department - I am the sales department. So I am 100% replaceable and I totally agree with that. The frustrating part for my current employer will be replacing me since th...

Re: Leaving Employer to Work for Current Client?
A lot of the responses refer to the would-be hiring company as a client, but I think the original post indicated it was as supplier ... most company's losing a staff member would generally be more OK with staff going to a client than a supplier... I have been in the position of transitioning to a supplier in a case where there was some tension around the matter on the side of the company I left. Interestingly, the tension did not come from former group members or direct management (who were able to understand the benefits and "big picture" advantages) but rather from management several layers up or just other people in the organization that really had no specific knowledge of the situation or factors and really ought not have car...

That's exactly how I see it as well. Even if my current employer is frustrated by the move it's hard to deny the fact that the symbiotic relationship will be deepened.Arthur Digby Sellers wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 10:11 am I work in a completely different field (law), but in my field employers typically like it when an employee leaves for a client. Yeah, the employer loses out on its employee, but it also deepens the symbiotic relationship it has with the client. So your company may prefer for you to stay, but the next best outcome is you leaving to work for a client.

Good advice, thank you random_walkerrandom_walker_77 wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 11:11 pm If you get an offer, you should let the other company know of your decision-making timeline, but don't necessarily need to tell them who else has made the offer. At my firm, we routinely have candidates who let us know that they received an offer and need to decide by xxx, and that we need to make our hiring decision before then in order to be considered.
I think most employers would expect that, if you're interviewing with them, you're also trying to setup interviews with other firms.

Currently interviewing with two companies. Two competing companies. If I get a job offer from one before the other should I inform company 2 of the situation?
Neither company I’m interviewing with has asked if I’m interviewing with other firms.

Re: "A Set-It-and-Forget-It Target-Date Series From Vanguard"
I too am a fan of Target Date Funds. Not perfect but vastly superior to what most people would come up with on their own. If you have a 401(k) and don't know what to do, the Target Date Fund with the date closest to your projected retirement date isn't a bad choice. The Vanguard, Fidelity, and T. Rowe Price versions are all good. Vanguard's are indexed, Fidelity has both active and passive versions of their Freedom Funds, and of course T. Rowe Price has active funds. A lot of workplace retirement savings programs offer American Funds too, I would add my endorsement to their Target Funds as well if you can get them at reasonable expense ratios. What would you consider to be a reasonable expense ratio for these American Funds? I currently us...
