19% loss a year ago may recur but now fed wants to keep interest rate low enough keep consumer spending going , downturn is unlikely. on etf s you can buy put option to protect you

To paraphrase Milton Friedman, China makes it hard for US to access their markets there by squeezing their own thighs so we retaliate with tariffs to squeeze ourselves and enjoy free roller coaster market turns in addition to possible inflation.

my bank wanted to slap $15 . We resumed to the good old way, but 2 months later we did not see any charge on an Ach transfer to vg for a large amount as the interest would offset $15 rather than wait for check clearance but, the bank did not charge any. May be they backed off based on customer feedb...

I believe VG is encouraging etf s to save expenses which will benefit its customers eventually. I wonder if that advantage disappears when etf proliferation, make their market cap exceed that of the underlying mf Thanks

I was advised about pa program as I made only 4% ytd for which I was happy in my blissful ignorance. They were nice about it and gave me the number to call if I wanted pas.

You got good advices. It would help to come up with more plans for you to choose from. if we know the reasons and urgency if any to sell the shares. If there is a need to lock in the price of stock, it may be possible to move 200 or so of them into a brokerage to sell in the money call options expir...

60% in bonds i e 30% in high yield 30% in moderate y 20% in high div stock 20% in total world hoping these wd not go down as much as 50 % or so predicted for SPY. Another advantage of etf is the ability to sell covered call during irrational exuberance of markets that may generate additional income/cushion loss in downturn etc. Jack was not too happy with etf growth rate but never wanted to reduce choices for people in USA. Thanks

Started 90% high div stock etf(vym) and 10% bond etf (vclt) but now 50 50 as intimidated by recession buzz, these etfs because it is possible to sell covered calls in upswings.

I always use limit orders, but my relative who trades more successfully than I am, uses market orders saying you may get better price for the day but what if markets start crashing tomorrow.

I am trying to allocate 70% of regular and ira assets in bonds as stocks are close to high and international trade worries are fluctuating stock markets. Within the bonds trying to put 1/3 each in high , moderate and low yields. Thanks.

Thank you for responses. vg high yield bond fund vweax vs vg intermediate bond index fund biv are the ones I am looking at. Sec yield is posted at 5.7 and 3.7%. I would like to know the default rate of these bonds to see the justification for the low yield. Thanks

Vanguard High-Yield vs. Long-Term Bond

The expected return on Vanguard high-yield bonds is 2% or so higher than the safer BLV, the Long-Term Bond ETF. I wonder what percentage of companies are expected to go belly up in a year to justify choosing a safer bond fund. Thanks.
