I have been in small animal practice (cats & dogs only) for 17 years in a HCOL area. This estimate seems high. This should cost you between $750-850 (Max 1000). You can get your cat started on oral antibiotics & try to find another vet in your area. Most of DVM's won't repeat recent blood test done ...

Try looking into government jobs. A very close friend of mine left HP after working 25years for same reasons. Now he is happily working for the
State government. He will be eligible for all benefits & pension. He works at his own pace. No deadlines and also lots of vacation time.
