Re: Roll Call for the Retirement Class of 2021!

Well, after about 35 years in the IT, food manufacturing and mining industries I have decided to jump off the track and leave the rat race. Having experienced a Product RECALL, and debilitating CYBER ATTACK and now dealing with life at work in the COVID era I think I have done my time. I always said...

Re: CD Ladder in Tax Sheltered Account?

Yes ... The main reason for looking outside TDA is to get under the insurance limits. My wife is getting a little worried that we have too much money concentrated in one institution. If I had a 5 year ladder with say ... $100K in each year would the insurance only cover a max of $250K for all the CD...

Re: CD Ladder in Tax Sheltered Account?

Thanks for this quick reply .... Would I have to start a new IRA and fund it over several years or can I just transfer monies from the trading account to the new institution and fund the CD's immediately?

CD Ladder in Tax Sheltered Account?

I have a question related to how to do something I have seen posted before here on the forum ... "A CD Ladder within a IRA account". I have a fairly large IRA account at TDAmeritrade that I use for managing my portfolios. I have several IRA and ROTH IRA accounts in this trading platform. I...

Wanting to learn how to play Bridge

I have watched folks play bridge and it looks like a very interesting game. I looked through some books "Bridge for Dummy's" etc. to see how I could learn how to play it well. One of my problems is that I want to do it very well and learn the right thing from the start. I am sure there are...

Can a US Citizen moving to Malaysia keep his brokerage accounts

We are considering a opportunity to work in Malaysia. I have plans to retire in January 2019 but if it may be interesting to take this opportunity to see a different part of the world. I have several IRA and very active trading accounts with TDAmeritrade close to $2MM. I trade mostly credit spreads ...

Re: 3-Fund Portfolio with Option Volume

Elbowman, Thanks for your response. I agree with the notion that selling calls and being called out is really a waste of time even if you can talk yourself a hole in the head that you made at least some money. I would like to keep the underlying stock and only gain the income from the sold calls tha...

Re: 3-Fund Portfolio with Option Volume

I guess the absence of any response confirms my initial hunch that there is no viable strategy where you can combine a 3-fund portfolio and covered call activities ...

Thanks for all who had a look at this .....

3-Fund Portfolio with Option Volume

I have looked all over the Boglehead site to see if there are examples of a 3-Fund Portfolio using normally traded [liquid ..] Optionable ETF's as a vehicle. Or even if there was just a 2-Fund approach that would allow for covered call activity from time to time ...? I want to leave the money in the...

Re: Practical Advice for Roth IRA Conversion

Thanks Sailor36 .... I realize it is a boatload of taxes and I probably will not do it all at once . Really just wanted to see if I had to sacrifice the balance in the 401K to pay the taxes.

Thanks again for your quick response ..

Practical Advice for Roth IRA Conversion

I have a very simple question .... I have a 401K account with $500K in it an I want to roll it into a ROTH IRA all at once. Which statement is true ....? 1. I have other money [cash in the bank] to pay the taxes on this conversion and the entire balance [$500K] now is in a ROTH IRA. 2. I have to pay...

Re: I should be able to retire!!!! But how can I do it?

I really did not intend this conversation to be hung up on the returns. I am not worried by the prospect of being able to continue with this rate ... really just want enough money in the bank so that my wife will not have to lift a finger after I am gone and that I will have some inheritance for the...

Re: I should be able to retire!!!! But how can I do it?

Thank you all for all the replies ... I did not expect that many. I will pursue the 401K withdrawal after age 55 and 72t routes and investigate some more. My house is paid off but I am very averse to taking on any debt .... never have liked to owe anybody anything. I do trade my accounts actively an...

I should be able to retire!!!! But how can I do it?

I have a interesting but I am sure not so unique a problem .... I have enough money saved but not enough cash to retire right now. I have more than $2 million in ROTH and TRADITIONAL IRA accounts. I am 54 years old and still work everyday as a manager in the manufacturing industry. The personally ma...
