Re: Fidelity Tax Managed US Equity Index

As a current customer, do you know the tiers for the different fees? The 0.2% -0.65% is a rather wide range, but they provide no information on the tiers. don't know. they didn't give the full schedule - only told me what I would pay for my investment. I think you will have to invest a whole bunch ...

Re: Fidelity Tax Managed US Equity Index

Do you think that you (or someone else) could have tax-loss harvested ITOT or VIG along the way during the same time period to create the same $13K in capital losses? I do not have time / inclination to do this level of market timing to do tax loss harvesting. Hence I am quite comfortable with the ...

Re: Fidelity Tax Managed US Equity Index

I have this SMA in my brokerage for the last 6 months or so - for me the 0.5% charge is a small blip / noise in overall performance. I have been keeping a watch account involving ITOT and VIG since the time I started investing in this (roughly 6 months ago) and the performance difference between SMA...

Re: Fidelity Money Market Fund suggestions?

I just looked up FZDXX according to summary page
Exp Ratio (gross): 0.37%
Exp Ratio (Net): 0.3%
7 day yield (as of 5/31/20): 0.17%
the yield now is likely much lower.
Does this mean this has a net negative yield (after expenses?)

I just signed up for an SMA account. They did not mention anything about these rewards. Is there any way to request these rewards now ($75 amazon card and bump in visa purchase rewards cashback?)

Fidelity SPDA for someone nearing retirement

I had CD ladders and short term treasuries at fidelity for my fixed income part of portfolio. I am winding down all of these as the interest has gone down drastically. A fidelity advisor talked to me about Single premium deferred annuities (SPDA) - currently several high quality ones yield 2-2.2% fo...

very likely - we called the next day after we did the contribution. Hard to believe they already notified IRS. It is turning out to be a mess now

no W2 income. He has been on fellowship only since beginning of graduate studies. He just called fidelity and they said they would take care of it - it seems it would take 2-3 days. For now he sees the money back in his regular fidelity account.

mistakenly allocated ROTH contribution for 2019 instead of 2020

my son has fellowship income. Congress recently passed a law to allow roth contributions from fellowship income in college. I had my son setup a ROTH IRA and had him transfer $6000 but during setup mistakenly chose year 2019. is there any way to correct the mistake and reallocate it for 2020 online ...

Re: After tax 401k loop

In my company, you can opt explicitly for a certain percentage to be set to After-tax 401k. The max is only 10% though, which prevents me from getting anywhere close to the $57k IRS maximum. So in a given paycheck, you can opt for 10% to pre-tax 401k and 10% to after-tax 401k. I just went into netb...

Re: After tax 401k loop

I called my company's fidelity rep today and he said there is a 401K ROTH that I can have my after tax dollars go to and he can set it up in such a way that from each paycheck the after tax dollars get automatically swept into the ROTH. From my perspective, I simply have to increase my contribution ...

if one sets up a backdoor roth IRA this way and it has substantial assets by the time they pass away, will the heirs (sons/daughters) have to pay taxes when they inherit it? or is there a way to start transferring after tax contributions to Roth IRA in children's name every year now?

learning about MBR Roth conversion

Hello We are in 32% bracket and have been contributing the maximum to traditional 401K (including the catch up) and are a few years away from retirement. Our 401Ks are managed by Fidelity and while I see we could contribute after tax money we never actually did until I learnt about this mega backdoo...

Re: Is ETF bid-ask spread a concern for long-term investing?

I looked up income for FSKAX (dividend + capital gains) and ITOT (income) - for 2019 FSKAX had $1.74 distributed while IOT distributed $1.36 - likewise the figures for 2018 are $1.78 vs $1.21 and for year 2017 they are $1.77 vs $1.03 (all figures from market watch) - is there something besides these...

Re: Downside to ETFs?

another significant aspect to this discussion (of ETF vs Fund) is tax efficiency, something I learnt and often discussed here. I was shocked to to see the differences in net costs (including taxes) between FSKAX and ITOT. funds distribute capital gains (on which you have to pay taxes) and ETF mostly...

Re: 1 million cash - looking for low risk investment

I started researching FUAMX as possible place to put 80% of money in taxable account. It only went back 2 years in all sites where I could chart it. But when I open up the prospectus, it showed results from 2009 on wards (its name may have changed along the way). Anyway I am pasting below what I fou...

Re: 1 million cash - looking for low risk investment

+1 on posting in the “Asking Portfolio Questions” format to get the best suggestions. Are you (and spouse?) contributing to a Roth IRA either directly or via a backdoor Roth? Does your 401k allow a mega Backdoor? Both are ways to get savings into Roth accounts which grow tax free. we both have just...

Re: 1 million cash - looking for low risk investment

No difference! I just took Vanguard's funds in the portfolio visualizer, because of the long history. When I chose Fidelity's offerings, the history went back only as far as 2001. The principle remains that you invest in a 20% total stock market, and 80% in intermediate treasuries. Where you buy th...

thank you lakpr and snailderby - this is very good info for someone at my stage. I always suspected treasuries were better than bond funds. Are there any advantages (or disadvantages) to buying intermediate treasuries directly in fidelity brokerage vs buying VFITX?

1 million cash - looking for low risk investment

I have been out of market for nearly decade for my taxable portfolio (401k alone is in a mix of stocks and bonds) and all of it is in CDs and short term treasuries. As yields are shrinking rapidly I am looking for investments that will boost the yields slightly with a slight risk. My top priorities ...

Sounds like you bought them from someone that had just gotten them. In 4 weeks you'll get $3K for your $2993.46. I am no expert but have bought at auction and sold once, and I bought them several days before the actual action/settlement. Next time I'd take a look a day or two in advance and see how...
