Re: Portable Audio - your configuration?
For running. Very old iPod touch - $5 at a garage sale Cheap in-ear, wired earbuds that they gave out for a summer reading program at the local library (I wear them halfway out so I can hear what is going on around me, especially important since I run in the dark). I run with a sweatband, so this allows me to keep them from being in my ears. I hate the foot pounding sound in my ear when all of the way in. iPod goes in my pants pocket I really, really, really, want to upgrade my running audio, but every time I look at stuff, I stick with my cheap and simple setup. Wireless would be nice because, yes, at times, I catch the cord with my arm and yank the buds down, lol. Also, can't seem to get the iPod to finish one podcast and start another wi...

For our daughter, we have Tello, she uses Google Voice for calls and it is $6.00 per month for 2GB of data. She knows that watching videos, listening to music on data will burn up her allotment, in which, at that time, it just stops and she has to wait for the next month.
RE: Phone, just buy a mid-level Android phone, like a Motorola phone and put a parental app on there. The phone itself doesn't matter, all about finding a good control app. Though, for high school, not sure one is really needed.

Yeah, I feel you on this. Pushed hard, probably too hard, for FIRE and it is all I thought about for years and years. However, now that the numbers work, I am still burnt out from my job, but it starts getting easier and easier to work. I am pushing flexibility and taking my time to methodically figure out what I am going to retire to. Knowing that work doesn't matter (healthcare benefits w/ACA are not as solid as current options, but still an option to protect downside), makes it much more palatable and I don't let it bother me as much, especially the difficult decisions. If they gave me an assignment I didn't want, I would either give notice or ask to be reduced to part time. The thought of retiring right now, well, it is not appealing, I...
