Traditional IRA conversion to Roth

There must be a thread somewhere already on here - I don't think there are income limits to do this nowadays. 54 yrs old. Plan on working maybe till 60? Considering converting my Traditional and Rollover (don't think the distinction matters in this case) to Roth IRAs. Would be a huge tax hit. Worth ...

Money market rates... Vanguard Prime vs online banks

Am I looking at it right. Currently .66% for Prime and more like 1.50% currently for Marcus and Cap One?

Re: Inherited IRA question

yeah, i don't think the OP gets it either. For Inherited IRAs, the RMDs (which start the year after death) (mainly) relate to the $'s in the account now vs sometime in the future. So, given that, not sure what's he is getting at.

Re: Employee Stock Purchasing Program

man oh man, this board is sometimes SOOOO risk averse... sell it all the day it hits your account?!? really?!? Doesn't it depend a bit on the company you work for?!? I have kept every share I've ever bought through our ESPP and have kept every share of stock grants when it vests. The company is in g...

Re: 529 Asset Allocation - is this valid thinking?

at only age 10, still 7 to 8 yrs out, i personally think 60/40 is way too conservative - 80/20 until age 15 (I actually keep it at 100 until then) then pair back each year to 529 deposit account the senior year of high school. but I guess that's too aggressive for some.

Re: Wow, Vanguard Flagship service is bad. Really bad.

I had an issue with my wife and my inherited IRA's failing to automatically distribute RMD's in January per the automated Vanguard service. I called mid-week around 6 PM about a week later to inquire into the matter. My Flagship rep was gone for the day and I spoke with another rep and he didn't ha...

Re: Vanguard and TurboTax

yeah, but the link with no-subsidy started last year - you get to the end of the process and about to hit Submit and then only at that point does Intuit hit you up for cash where previously it was covered by Vanguard (depending on your status) ... at that point, they have you over a barrel... they s...

Vanguard and TurboTax

I find it a bit annoying that Vanguard still has a direct link to TurboTax in the Tax Center and you now have to pay for it - they should not have the direct link if they are not subsidizing it (or making it free).

sorry dumb backdoor roth question...

i'm not 100% sure how the back door works but i am assuming that it is only something to consider if you have already contributed all of your pre-tax dough to a 401k - I am 50 now so that's 18K + 6K catch-up for this year and next i think. in other words, unless i can come up with the cash to fully ...

Re: Bonds are getting crushed...

well, with a trade like that you're getting into market timing. I am talking about a reduction in my allocation to fixed income. The long bull run in the bond market may be coming to an end with a possible massive Keynesian spending spree the U.S. might consider - with that comes exploding deficits ...

Bonds are getting crushed...

the 30 yr treasury is down big today, down a full 3 3/32 - yield up to 2.78% 10 yr yield up to near 2%. A very fast move up to 2% for the 10 yr in a very short amount of time. I would think it is time to re-think bond allocations. I am re-thinking mine.

Re: (Yet Another) Inheritance portfolio plea for advice

This is my first time posting on Bogelheads and I am, like most first timers, seeking advice from the braintrust. I will try to keep this simple, right. My father passed 18 months ago, at that time I inherited $1.3m in IRA accounts. Since they were from a single decedent to a single beneficiary (an...

inheriting both an IRA and a non-IRA investment account

Complicated topic. With the IRA, it is my understanding that I need to set up an 'Inherited IRA' account. With that, all investments from the IRA get transferred into the Inherited IRA account - if you are a partial beneficiary then the investments get split accordingly? If 2 shares of IBM - if 50/5...
