Re: Low-dividend paying ETFs - are there any?

I was looking something alike, IWO seems to have a low dividend.
If going to mutual funds, my broker insists that his Luxemburg-based funds do not pay taxes on dividends.

Now it is straight.forward to assume that dividends payed go against capital appreciation?
If not, why avoir dividends even if suffering the 30%?

Re: Should non-US investors buy US-listed REITS?

Hi
I was also looking to compare IUSP vs VNQ, how to asses the risk of low liquidity?

IUSP:
-TER+Div yield*(1-tax rate)
-0.40%+3.06%*(1-0.15)=2.2% dividend yield afters taxes
Net Assets: USD 752 million

VNQ:
-0.12%+3.27%*(1-0.3)=2.16% dividend yield afters taxes
Fund total net assets $58.5 billion

Would seem IUSP not worth the loss of liquidity.
Please comment if something is wrong.

Re: Tax Efficient Investments for Non US Citizens

Sorry, morningstar showed different dividend yields.

What about additional costs such brokerage fees and bid /aks spread?
From that wiki "Depending on your broker, buying Ireland-domiciled ETFs usually costs more in transaction fees. Beware that next to transaction costs, brokers can have annual custody fees"
In your experience, do these have negligible influence?
thank you

Re: Tax Efficient Investments for Non US Citizens

Thank you for your answer Ted: Does it cost you the same (brokerage fees, others) to buy VWRD or to buy VTI? From a US brokerage account maybe the former is more expensive to buy? 2) I enumerate some factors to take into account when comparing Ireland or US based ETFs with the same underlying assets: -Witholding rate (continous) -Dividend yield (continous) -Expense ratio (continous) -bid/ask spread (at sell or buy) -premium-discount (at sell or buy) -Difference in brokerage costs?(at sell or buy) -Higher probability for an ETF with much lower liquidity (or Volume) to have "problems"?(continous). I've read somewhere to avoid etfs with AUM smaller than 1 billion. - Which I am missing? 3) I've checked some Ireland vs US etf's and mak...

Re: Tax Efficient Investments for Non US Citizens

Thank you for your answers.

Regarding estate tax:
I inheritated two accounts (traditional brokerage ones, with a known representative assigned to the account in each, one was an investment bank) when my father died.
I was co-owner in one, in the other I had some kind of authorization.
I contacted them a few days before my father decease and they just seemed to open a new account and transfer the assets from my fathers one to mine's. Then closed my father's one.
I don't know in which conditions this can be performed.

When I just open an ameritrade account, could open it only as individual, and they doesn't seem to provide a way to allow safe transfer of the assets to another person upon decease of the owner.
(I'm 42)

Thank you

Re: Tax Efficient Investments for Non US Citizens

Hello , my username is Wanlo, hello to everyone .

Nica,
I'm also NRA of a country without tax treaty with US. I own XLV,XLK,VDC,VWO, IHF, DXJ and HEDJ.

I'm strongly interested in what you (or anyone else :-)) got in clear regarding avoiding 30% withholdings in dividends.
(I get withholdings even for dividends from ETF's of non US companies (VWO for example)).

Ireland listed ETF seem a choice but:
-Only cut from 30% to 15%
-Higher expense ratios
-Higher bid-ask spreads (less liquidity)
-Is it possible to buy Ireland listed ETFs through ameritrade? (just opened an account to test because I had 1% commisions)

Finally, my brokers never mentioned the estate tax as a possibility, did someone suffered it?

Thank you
