Re: Steelcase Gesture: Headrest? Other Models? (Office Chair)

Madison seating has most/all of these models for big discounts. Just bought the V2 a few weeks ago. Great chair.

Re: Where do you buy coffee beans?

Costco tends to over-roasted their own coffee beans and produce a burned taste. That's because--with the exception of the few lucky locations that have an in-store roastery--Costco outsources their coffee roasting to Starbucks. And unfortunately, despite decades of experience, Starbucks still has n...

Re: Sell My Car To Carvana?

+1 for Carvana. I couldn't use them because they were too far from my "area", but their offer was higher than what I ended up selling for. And they were higher than other car apps.

Agreed, this seems weird. Better to be safe than sorry. If he's unwilling to meet with me at a bank in person, I'm walking away.

Re: A dumb vehicle trade-in scenario?

I'd suggest selling your car at CarMax and then paying cash for the cheaper car. Getting the old car out of the way, and forgetting about financing, gets you focused on the two things that matter: 1. What's the new (used) car you really want? 2. What's the best price to pay? After you've negotiated...

Re: A dumb vehicle trade-in scenario?

Over the course of your life, you'll come out ahead if you never borrow money to buy cars. Forces you to only buy cars you can afford. You'll come out ahead if you never *need* to borrow money to buy cars. I've come out ahead by being willing to pay cash, but taking attractive financing deals at lo...

Re: A dumb vehicle trade-in scenario?

I wouldn't take a loan just to improve some intangible credit score, especially when you have excess cash on hand. You'll take a hit trading in, or selling your current vehicle, to a dealer - no question. Sure, it's a lot easier than selling privately, and why the dealer is likely to offer signific...

Re: A dumb vehicle trade-in scenario?

We sold our old car to Carvana last year. process was all online and relatively simple. then they send out a person on a flatbed to pick up your car and give you a check. they offered us $2500 more than the dealer would on trade (8k vs 10.5k) and the $10.5k was what I would have expected from craig...

Re: A dumb vehicle trade-in scenario?

Yes :-) What part of your credit are you trying to improve? Your credit score or your borrowing amount? I'm sure you can improve both far cheaper and more effectively without using a car transaction to do it e.g. if you need to purchase a home appliance/computer/etc. apply for a loan and use that t...

A dumb vehicle trade-in scenario?

Hi there, At the risk of sounding dumb, I'm seeking advice about my car situation. Thanks! Background: 1. I want to buy a used car from a dealer for around $14k. 2. I also want to finance said car to expand the breadth of my credit. Yes, I could pay cash. No, I've never had a loan (auto/home) before...

Thank you, everyone, and thanks Duckie for the comment about in-plan ER. (added to original post).

I'm going to stick with the baseline plan.

New company = New fund choices

Hello all, The new company is offering the following 401k investment choices. I'm just curious if anyone has experience (good or bad) with any of these and would recommend I take a closer look at adding to my portfolio, especially in light of today's 'new-normal' COVID environment? I'm open to advic...

Re: Investment Annual Physical!

Thanks very much, Duckie! I have made most of the changes you suggest to simplify my 401k as well as her ROTH with Schwab. Average (weighted) expense ratio now down to 0.05% from 0.37%!

Re: Investment Annual Physical!

Thank you for your replies! 1. I have moved money out of OAKMX and am opening a ROTH with Fidelity. Duckie, yes, her ROTH is with Schwab (had it prior to marriage). 2. Looking at MorningStar, MINHX outperforms VTIAX over essentially any time period. However MINHX fees are higher. How can I calculate...

Max HSA If Investment Options Suck?

My workplace contributes $1,000 annually to HSA account, offered through UMB Bank. The account is set up such that any money in the account above $1,000 gets placed in Fidelity Investments Money Market (FMPXX, er = 0.18%). There don't appear to be other investment options. Any advice is appreciated!...

Liquidate Funds Through Charitable Giving?

I have ~$8k in an American Funds account (AWSHX) that I want to move. It's an old UTMA (I'm the child) that was never used, I don't plan to contribute to it, and the er is higher than I'd like (0.58%). I have a 401k, rollover IRA, and ROTH but I don't believe I can transfer any money to these from t...

What to do with extra cash?

Quick highlight of my financial situation: I'm 29 yrs old. Looking to be aggressive with investments because I'm behind with respect to retirement planning (I just got first real job out of grad school). My current portfolio is below. I'm seeking advice for 1) restructuring my current allocation and...
