Re: Advice on snowblower
If you have that much of an incline you want a plow instead of blower maybe. Push the snow down the incline.... Either with a truck/plow. Or ATV/plow. Snowblowers work on inclines - if you have to with lots of snow you blow down the incline, come back up in the cleared path and blow down again. Rubb...

Re: I should be able to retire!!!! But how can I do it?
Maybe his name is bernie M ? :D Most of my mainstay long term this year seems to be around 1.25 on the low and 3.57 on the high for ytd 2016 with one of my long terms doing extra well at 35% (lucky me). Hell if I could guarantee half of what the op is saying (20% every year) for the rest of my life ...

Re: Pushing for early retirement - where to go
Hmmm, I just saw the thread that says which CITY to retire in. Not sure if I should delete this and tack on to that thread or leave it here. We don't want to be in a city. Outside a city or country would be more our style.

Pushing for early retirement - where to go
I have been in business 23+ years now and the stress is wearing on me. Me and my wife have decided to early retire coming up. Originally it was gonna be in 10 years but with all kinds of extra stress lately we put a newer plan in place. Saving extra these next 5 years and not buying anything big and...

Gene2001: The funeral director told us that it should only be around $200.00 to put the ashes into the plot we already own in Iowa. Very small town--probably cheaper up there. birdy Thanks, ours is in Queens, NY so I'm sure its gonna cost more. What do they do - anyone know? It has to be in a speci...

Re: Preparing financially for our funerals - prepay or not?
We have all decided on cremation, no reason for us to be spending $10-$20k on funerals. Money is needed for the living not the dead..... That being said we own a family plot with 12 spots left. Never even thought the ashes could be buried with the rest of the family already there (4 members). Anyone...

Are you sure he added 2 pounds? We would charge that much alone for 22, then the service call on top of that. And if you were 2 pounds short - the guy is obligated to find the leak and fix it. Not have it keep venting out. Either you got a really good deal somehow, or maybe you were a half pound low...

Re: How much is your cell phone bill?
Went from Verizon 2 cell phones - I think We were at $130 a month Down to Google fi in January of this year, 2 cell phones $50 a month on average. We are not big data users. On a side note we were Dish network users for many many years. I think that was also $120 a month. 3 years ago we cut the cord...

Changing or Reallocating A few Retirement Investments
Just started investing for retirement (ira and 401k maxed out every year) 5 years ago or so . I am very much in the invest as much as I can and as fast as i can (no trying to time the market) and just let it sit for the long haul. I have been pretty happy with most of my picks, and even learned to l...

Anyone have experience with Google's Project Fi? https://fi.google.com/about/?u=0 New code-name Sailfish and Marlin Nexus phones due next month. Some very nice features.... Re: NYT cautionary tale on the cloud
I use cloud storage to backup on site storage. And really important stuff is also imaged (drives) and backed up at a safety deposit box off site. So I would hope that if one of the three areas get erased/burned to the ground or shut down/compromised I have two other locations to go to. I learned the...

After researching it for years we cut sat TV/cable I think back in 2008. Was $120 or so a month back then. I only wish I did it sooner. Had dish network since 2000 or something like that. 8 years of paying all that money - imagine if I had it invested in the market! We have never looked back and our...

Most users will tell you that NG is cheaper than oil. The OP can check out historical prices for both fuels at the EIA links: https://www.eia.gov/special/heatingfuels/#/US-PA:oil:week https://www.eia.gov/special/heatingfuels/#/US-PA:natgas:week to convert figure it takes 8 gallons of oil to equal t...

Re: Converting from Oil heat to Gas or Electric
Gas supply is de-regulated in NJ. You can shop price, but you'll be forced to lock-in contract once you do select supplier. Both gas and electric deregulated many years ago in NJ. Since we were already set up as a utility we thought we would jump right in and also sell gas and electric at the time....

Ramped up my retirement savings and have been putting everything into it for an early retirement so I don't have to face this problem. But if it happens before I can retire, we already have a good amount of emergency fund money so we have time to find a new job without having to take the first thing...

I'm an oil heat dealer - have been in Nj for 23 years now. And been in the HVAC industry for 30+ years. It pains me to hear stories of bad mechanics and companies. Verizon with two smart phones I think was $140 a month. Google fi has averaged $50 a month (tax and everything. So a good savings.

Re: Buying a Fifth Wheel-Help
We loved our 5th wheel. We bought one of the lighter models - outback with garage for the race track. Had a dodge 2500 v10 to pull it. Because of the lighter weight of the outback it pulled really easy. But sucked down the gas. I think depending on how fast we went - 50's we got 8-9 mpg. 60's - 70's...

I am trying to determine if I'm getting overcharged by my insurance company for firearm insurance. My homeowners insurance policy has a coverage limit for firearms of $2,500 if loss is due to theft. The deductible is $1k, effectively providing $1,500 worth of coverage in the event of theft. The hom...
