Re: Apple Card

The Applecard appears to be a normal card with subprime rewards for those with subprime credit; all wrapped up in a pretty white titanium wrapper.

Given that they are giving this card to just about anyone, I think it will end up being a very visible badge for people with weak credit.

Re: The Economist print and digital, $99 today

I get the Economists for free at Barnes & Noble. Every Friday I buy a cup of coffee and take an Economists and a bunch of other mags to the cafe for a couple hours of reading. I return them to their original location when done.

It’s a great deal and I have been doing it for 15 years.

I have not found an updated fair value CAPE source on the internet. Where can I find “this weeks” value of the fair market CAPE if I was so inclined?

Re: Vanguard is Discontinuing their VanguardAdvantage Accounts

Looks like Fidelity CMA is the best option as a replacement. Fidelity can automatically liquidate MM for BillPay. Schwab cannot do this. I have the impression (perhaps erroneous) that there is a overdraft protection on the Schwab bank account that would go to the brokerage account and liquidate fun...

Re: Vanguard is Discontinuing their VanguardAdvantage Accounts

Here's a somewhat real example from my CMA this week: 1. I keep roughly ~$5k in FDLXX (Fidelity Treasury Only Money Market) with an yield of 1.99% and TEY of 2.26%. 2. I deposited a check for $250.69 from the water company (rebate for WiFi sprinkler). I now have $250.69 in CORE and $5k in FDLXX. 3....

Re: Discontinuing VanguardAdvantage Accounts

I can forgive Vanguard their decision to cancel Vanguard Advantage. In a true Risk/Reward analysis they acknowledge they cannot provide a truly adequate product for the future and I must concur. What I cannot forgive them for is their failure to wield their VAST financial/marketing leverage to PARTN...

Re: Discontinuing VanguardAdvantage Accounts

I am a Flagship Select customer who just transferred all of my banking auto payments to VanguardAdvantage. With net interest rates finally rising to tolerable levels and banks refusing to raise deposit rates I was delighted to finally do so. It was the ONLY perk from being a Flagship Select customer...

Re: Schwab Independent Franchise

An article last year https://www.fa-mag.com/news/schwab-to-ramp-up-franchise-branch-program-34918.html?section=3 talked about a couple of Schwab Franchise branches. When I checked the population of the cities they were located in it seemed that they were all in cities with a population under 250,00...

Re: Vanguard Personal Advisory Services Fees

I keep my wife's $3 million with PAS. Our advisor, whom we only talk to annually by our choice, recently told us that "We are his least demanding clients". Since I have no need for this money for a decade or so, I just don't care to spend time talking about it. I have another $4 million I could put ...

I love FFNOX! And absolutely intend to buy it myself in my i401k later this year. Great fund with a 0.11% ER.
Does the .11% include the underlying index funds or are they in addition to the .11%?

Re: Merrill Edge best choice for higher net worth accounts?

I have been considering Merrill Edge to get the platinum level rewards. My concern is if I transfer too much money to them; they might uncover my existence to a local Merrill broker and I might be a target of his/hers phone and marketing tactics. Does anyone have any experience with local Merrill br...

Travel Insurance: Cunardcare or Chase Shapiro Reserve ?

I am buying a few cruises with Cunard and they want about $200 for their Cunardcare travel insurance. I want insurance but it appears the insurance included with my CSR is just as good. Any thoughts? We have elderly parents that could become ill( or not) before we leave causing my wife to abort the ...

A good question!

On a more mundane level will I get some form of information on my 1099 from Vanguard that might allow me to deduct some or all of my PAS .3% fee as a deductuble investment expense?

I rather like the PAS program except....... I decline to add extra millions to my PAS account and pay the .3% for the extra funds. Give the rather "Vanilla" services provided (a lifestyle fund may well be as good) I fail to see why extra funds should cost any extra at all. why not .1% for millions b...
