If you're an "average joe" the default SSA table is a good fit. Mortality rates for average joes is what the SSA table provides.

I didn't know you could buy a $28k house, which didn't need to be condemned. There are homes for sale for $8,000 (move in condition) in my childhood hometown. Some people live there drive $40k cars, live in $10k homes. Crazy ain't it? Which town if you don't mind. I assume you are doubting the prices. I don't know where the OP lives, but there are numerous towns in the rural Midwest where this is the reality. Take a look at Woonsocket, South Dakota on Zillow. There's nothing for sale right now, but there are homes that have sold in the last decade or so in the teens and low 20s. There are some in the 4 figure range, but they are mobile homes. Which makes me ask... OP, is this a mobile home? Because mobile homes don't appreciate like a regu...

Sugar is hard to resist. But I started with eliminating soda, then reduce the sugar amount in my coffee and tea very slowly and over long time. Now I drink coffee with no sugar. I don't mind tons of fruit, the water in it will get you full before the sugar surges in your blood. Ice cream is a problem so i started to buy those small cups and mini sizes. You can buy mini candy as well. It all start with the brain. My brain becomes trained to feel the dangers of every bite of junk food I eat. +1 That is what I did with soda coffee and tea. The sodas you just stop but to drink coffee or tea without sugar that took me awhile. I did over a couple months. I like the other guys idea of very dark chocolate with low sugar for the candy loves. My husband killed himself recently. Fortunately, he left me in relatively good financial shape. Unfortunately, dealing with the suicide has left me barely keeping my head above water and with mush for brains. On the advice from wealthy people, I moved $490k to Schwab from UBS. I am 62 and am receiving a small amount of money from Social Security. I currently have a small part time job which isn't enough to live on. However, my house is paid for and my expenses are low. I told my financial adviser at Schwab that I wanted to invest in a way that would help me plan for the future as well as allow me to receive dividends and interest to supplement my income. Half of the money was invested in Thomas Partners and half with Schwab Intelligent Por...

This story reminds me of a family story. A priest we knew called our home for the first time in twenty years. He asked for the name and address of a relative that was a widower. We decided not to give out that information. The priest told us he was trying to get a list of widowers together. Our family was shocked at the way this was done.

Fish2XS one year I traded 50 stocks. Your portfolio reminds me of that year. LOL I think you could move to a three fund portfolio with the stock parts in taxable bonds in non taxable. With that amount you will need bonds in taxable also. Boy do you have some selling to do. I think it will cause a drop in your taxes once you are all set up and a lot less fees. You are lucky it will not cost a lot in taxes.
