China travel

I would like to travel to China this August with my 22 year old son. I know its not the best time to go but I am basing it on my son's schedule before he starts his new job after graduation. I am looking for a group tour that hits the highlights in Beijing and Shanghai on a 9 to 12 day tour. I am no...

Enjoy the greatest wealth you will ever experience: 3 kids. Money can't hold a candle to the richness of having a family. I predict you will look back on your post one day and see this clearly.

Lag time to transfer 401 to TIRA

Yesterday I initiated transferring my 401K from Vanguard to Fidelity. I retired a year ago and want to make this a non-taxable event. I received help from a Fidelity representative and this is proceeding smoothly as far as I know. The rep at Fidelity told me that he is overnighting in the papers to ...

Re: State income tax refund - Claimed if not received?

What you did with the refund is irrelevant -- just like a 1099-DIV is taxable whether you reinvested the dividends or received cash. The 1099-G income is federally taxable if you itemized federal deductions in the tax year that produced the state refund. If you didn't itemize, I'm not sure if you r...

I have not read the book but please tell me if I am understanding this correctly. If Pfau is changing the SWR to 2.5% that includes using an advisor. For the sake of easy round numbers, does that mean Bogleheads that do not use an advisor can safely assume SWR to be about 3.5% now?

You can "borrow" audio books from your public library. It usually involves downloading an app and then the library sends the book to your app and you can listen for a pre-determined amount of time and then the book is "returned' to the library and disappears from your phone

My 20 year term life insurance is expiring in a few months. The death benefit is 1.6 million which is not really needed by my family but of course would be a nice inheritance. The premium to continue this for another 10 years has gone up by a factor of 9 (from $2,000/yr to $18,000/yr) and then the p...
