Re: Adding Canadian Citizenship - any downsides?

Briefly mentioned already, but traveling on a Canadian passport might prove a benefit. Just being able to visit Canada now would be a benefit. My husband and I recently took a six-week road trip in our small motorhome (carefully self-isolating and social distancing, wearing masks in public, etc.) a...

*naive but learning* So if your husband travels from Denmark to the US and then returns to Denmark, he has to carry two passports, one for entering the US and the other for when he returns to Denmark? (or vice versa?) Yes, absolutely. It really isn't that big a deal, and in fact, probably makes his...

Re: Adding Canadian Citizenship - any downsides?

The law you quoted says the US citizen must “bear” a valid passport, not that it must be used, shown, or presented. The State Department statement appears unsupported by that law. This is one of those legal issues where people seem firmly convinced of something that they can’t actually show a basis...

You might be right, VT...I am unaware of the issues that non-US residents might face by holding a US passport. My comment was based not on patriotism but of the value of flexibility. Whether one uses a US, Canadian, EU, or really any passport is not important. The point is that you CAN use it, if o...

Thank you. We have no children (or other heirs).

From reading this thread, most do not see a downside to adding Canadian citizenship. I'm retired, so don't need to worry about a security clearance (which I actually once had in the 1980's when working for the U.S. federal government).
